8600 GT Memory Question

Hello

This is my current card

http://www.xpertvision.com/main/vgapro.php?id=68

And this is the same card, but with twice the ammount of memory. I found this cheap at my local PC shop selling for £40 second hand, but in good working condition.

I'd like to play the latest games on good graphic settings. I have been able to do that so far with Call of Duty 5 and Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3. I have been playing Need For Speed undercover and although it looks great and runs at an average of 25 frames per second. I get lag now and then and do struggle playing other games.

If i was to upgrade my card to the above would i be able to expect much difference in the performance, should it play games more smoothly?

Another thing is that my current graphics cards memory is DDR3, where as the other card im thinking of upgrading to is DDR2. Im not sure what this means so would someone explain this to me.

Thank You.

Re: 8600 GT Memory Question

Card VRAM is pointless unless you're gaming on a large monitor.

The More Video RAM You have the Better the Game will run on larger monitors / Larger Resolutions.

I would get a 8800GT as they are cheap now, but you need a 650W Minimum PSU with a min of 26A on the 12V+ Rail.

As For DDR2 and DDR3 RAM, These don't really matter too much, however DDR2 is found on older Cards.
