9600gt Sli
I didnt know whether to post this here or in the hardware forum, because I've got 2 questions really. So, I've just had a gaming PC built, and I asked for a 4850 in it. But when it was finished, he said "I've upgraded it to an ultra rare 9600 GT". And I knew the 9600GT was nowhwere near as good as the 4850 I wanted, but I decided to try it. So I tried it, and it's actually better than I expected. On COD4, 1400 resolution, 2xAA and all on ultra I'm getting very minimum of 45 fps, highest 180 fps, and an average of 60-70. So, as I can't see much difference between 50 fps and 80 fps, I decided to keep the 9600 GT, as it's doing quite well. Now, my system is:
Code:
AMD athlon X2 5600 @ 2.90 GHz 2x2GB iXtreme (or something) supercooled DDR2 RAM 550W coolermaster eXtreme PSU nVidia GeForce 9600 GT OC windows vista 64bit (well it will be when I buy it) 446 GB SATA II HDD Now to the gaming part. More to the point, would there BE a point in running another in SLI? I mean, is my system good enough to take full advantage of it, or will it make no difference? what FPS, based on my current AVG of 60-70 FPS should I expect with another 9600? Thanks in advance for all your help. I guess this turned out more of a question for hardware, sorry... Last edited by jrockpunk1; 11-19-2008 at 02:03 PM. |

Re: 9600gt Sli
If you paid for a 4850 I'd be taking that back. The 4850 is more expensive and performs better than a single 9600GT.
2 9600GT's in SLI usually perform 2-5 FPS better than a single 4850, depending on the game and other hardware.

Re: 9600gt Sli
**** this guy then. I asked for a 4850 and PSU that could handle 2 4850's! Instead he's given me a **** GPU and a PSU that can't handle 2 in SLI. Would I be better buying a 9800 GTX or buying another 9600, and another PSU?
Also, will a 9800 GTX work with that PSU? |

Re: 9600gt Sli
It's an nVidia motherboard, and the man said it can run SLI, and I know that it's got 2 PCIe slots, so I'm sure it will. I'm just wondering if I'll be better getting a 9800 GTX so I can add another of those in SLI in the future. Another reason is I don't want to have to pay extra money for the PSU ATM. So would getting the 9800 GTX be the best option? Also, if I get avg 60fps now on COD4 maxed out, what will I get with 2 in SLI, and with a 9800 GTX instead?
