[SOLVED] Dell replaced my graphics card
What's going on ? Sometimes the computer is making the noise and other times it's not, like at this moment. The noise sounds like a fan or motor starting up and then shuting down every few seconds and it repeats the cycle constantly. It's not a loud noise, just irritating because it goes up and down. Any thoughts on this ?

Re: noise coming from a Dell Inspiron 530
Hi, if this noise has just started I would look for the cause. Fans are common in computers you have case fans for cooling and air circulation these are usually ON all the time. Then there is the Power supply fan also usually always on. If any of these fans are the culprit in case fan change the fan if power supply change power supply. Then you will have a CPU fan and often a Graphics card fan both of these will spin up as required. Noisy fans can be annoying and often all thats needed is a good case clean, many instances where little insects get caught and cause the fan to be noisy.

Your fan usually alternates between a low and high level of spin (bad wording), it only runs at a high level when it's starting to overheat. If it just started recently, try cleaning your fan.

Re: noise coming from a Dell Inspiron 530
Very strange, right at this moment the computer is not making that irritating sound . If it doesn't have to make it now then why does it have to make it at other times ? Maybe since it is a new computer it was crying because it was scared that it is in a new home and now it has settled down and gotten used to living here with me ? OK , don't worry, I'm just kidding . In any case I hope that whining sound doesn't return another day. Right now it is so much nicer without it .

noise issue with the computer
I don't see a General Computer forum so I'm not sure where this topic should be posted.
The issue is that sometimes this computer , Dell 530 Inspiron , makes an irritating sound. It sounds like a fan going on and off every second continuously. I disconnected both fans when it was making this noise and it doesn't come from either fan. So where could it come from ? The curious thing is that it doesn't do this all the time. Right at this moment it is quiet and not making this noise. So why does it have to make it at other times ? Calling Dell has been no use because they are always having me unplug this and that and the problem is never fixed. The last time my finger even got caught in the fan. It's a good thing that the fan isn't strong enough to take my finger off. If the computer is quiet now then why can't it be quiet ALL THE TIME ??? That "noise" isn't loud, only irritating when it is making it . |

Re: noise issue with the computer
Power supply more than likely. Try blowing it out with compressed air.
In the winter months when rooms are a little cooler the lube on or in the bearings, or bushing tends to get a little stiff, causeing the noise. It will go away as the machine heats up, most of the time. Probably dust and hair in there as well adding to the problem.

Also the noise doesn't go away when it heats up. Either it does it or doesn't do it for some reason. Today it didn't do it as soon as I turned it on and kept quiet, so why should it do it at other times ?? |

Dell replaced my graphics card
Remember my post about my computer making an irritating vacuum cleaner noise ? Well a technician sent out by Dell replaced my 256MB graphics card and the computer has been quiet since then. I just hope that it ( the vacuum cleaner noise ) doesn't return .
