I just put together my first build. The mobo has onboard graphics, and the computer runs great using that, but the barebone kit came with a GeForce 9600 that I am having some trouble with.
When I plug it in and give it power, my computer doesn't boot. I get no beep indicator from the mobo, and the monitor never comes out of sleep mode, but all the LEDs and fans come on. I don't think that the fans on the GPU come on, though. I have plugged the monitor into both DVI slots on the card, and into the blue VGA slot on the mobo, but it never responds. Let me know if I can provide any more information that would help anyone diagnose this. I should be responding to any replies promptly, although I am at work and the computer is at home. Motherboard: XFX nForce 750a SLI Socket AM2+ Motherboard OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Graphics: XFX GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB PCIe w/Dual Link DVI |

Re: GeForce 9600 no monitor response
Someone tell me if this is the right sequence for doing this:
Boot to BIOS w/ integrated graphics. Switch BIOS settings to PCI-E. Shut down computer. Insert GeForce 9600. Boot up & install drivers. Yes no maybe? |

Re: GeForce 9600 no monitor response
RMA = Return Material Authorization, In other words send the card back for a replacement.
Normally the Bios will see the installed and enable it on it's own unless there is a problem with the card or the board if you have any other PCIe card you could test by installing it and booting if you see a bios screen then the board is good and the 9600 card is bad. There are cases where you have to enable it in the Bios but usually only if it had been disabled previously or sometimes just a bios cliche but you have set it for enabled. Re: GeForce 9600 no monitor response
I see. Well I have active threads on 6 different sites now, so if I can't find a resolution by the end of the weekend I will probably seek out a replacement.

Well as it turns out, I had the card plugged into the wrong slot. It's my only PCIe card, and so I put it in PCIE1 (naturally).
After calling XFX, they told me it needs to be PCIE4. Go figure, but I'm super excited to have awesome graphics now! Thanks for the suggestions! |
