A bad video card?
Hi! I have a pretty fast computer that i bought a few weeks ago (4Gb RAM, Quad core processor, Vista and DirectX 10 installed) but my games have been lagging a lot. I thought that the problem is probably that my video card isn't good enough, but i can't find a list that compares different video cards. I have an ATI Radeon HD 3650 512MB video card. Do I have to buy a better one if i want to play games like crysis, bioshock etc. with good graphics or is the problem somewhere else?
Thank you for your answers! Last edited by Ege; 11-18-2008 at 11:49 AM. Reason: Wrong video card |

Re: A bad video card?
List complete hardware specs, including power supply wattage and
brand. Not sure if your video card is capable of running some of the high end games, not a ati guy.....

Re: A bad video card?
You can use everest in my sig and use the report tool.
The 3650 is a rebadged 2600 , it's capable of gaming but its not a high end card. Infact it's slightly slower then the 2600. But you should get decent xbox 360 style graphics out of it if it's a ddr3 version.

Re: A bad video card?
Here's a comparison chart for Q8/2008 from Tom's Hardware. Scroll down and click on the game and settings you are interested in and it will rate the various cards in order by framerate. You'll find a single HD 3650 around the middle or so, depending on the game.
The specs that Manic needs can mostly be found with the Acer model number, but, you also need to take off the side cover and look at the label on the side of your power supply. Note the manufacturer, model #, wattage, and the output (in amps) from the +12 volt rail or rails. Basically write down everything on the label. Then he'll be able to advise you better on what you may or may not need. edit - oops, forgot link, been up way way too long eh. http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/g...hmarks,30.html

Re: A bad video card?
<-- I checked System requirement labs and here are the results- So looks like the problem is in my video card. If I'm going to buy a new one, what do you recommend? Also, can I buy a geforce card in this computer or does it have to be ati for this motherboard? Thanks for your answers! |

Re: A bad video card?
I found out that my computer has an integrated ati radeon 3200 video card and an ati radeon 3650 card. Apparently, my computer is using the integrated video card and not the 3650. Is this possible and how could I fix it?
Thank you. |

Re: A bad video card?
There's only one port for the monitor cable and my monitor il linked to it, if that's what you're asking. I haven't opened my computer up, so I don't know is there a video card or the motherboard on the other side of the port, though.

Re: A bad video card?
With the video card and the integrated you should have 3 ports on the back to hook the monitor to.
Are you using a VGA or DVI monitor, VGA is usually a blue port and DVI is usually white. If you have a VGA monitor the card is DVI and should have come with an adapter. |

Re: A bad video card?
My screen is connected to the computer with a DVI cable. There's a pic of the back of my computer. But is there any way I can check which video card the computer is using without removing the cover?
