ATI video drivers for x1050 - which ones to use? + problems

ATI Radeon x1050 video card, AGP with 256MB RAM. I have tried several drivers including 7.4, Omega, etc., and the same problem occurs, The desktop refreshes randomly and fairly often., when working in MS Publisher 2003 the page I'm working on will refresh at random, sometimes 3 or 4 times consecutively and always when I save my work. It's only text tables with a colored background, no graphics. They refresh like a fast dripping graphic., top to bottom. Device Manager claims the card is working properly.

I'm hoping someone can recommend a driver to try that's known to work decently or other advice to try. I don't care about the Catalyst things and don't do any intense work nor play games. Thanks for your help.
