Fried GFX card?
Hello all
![]() Recently my computer "died" due to unknown reasons but I wish to find out what has done this and find out anyway to fix this if it isn't faulty hardware. (Im pretty sure it is my 8800GTX) Ok.. so I was playing world of warcraft and suddenly the screen went black and came back with all my textures purple/pink and was frozen for 20 second periods but it was only the video component because the sound was normal and was not looping. So I restarted and when it came back on the were dotted lines over my screen running in a horizontal pattern. I turned it off and now when ever I try to turn it back on the screen just stays on stand-by mode for over a minute then comes on with a wall of snowy diagonal lines all over the screen. So is this my GFX card? and is there anyway to fix this? (I would test the onboard GFX if my motherboard had one...) Thank you to any help! Last edited by neilbz; 11-06-2008 at 03:29 AM. |

Re: Fried GFX card?
If you put an 8800 video card in a Dell without dealing with the power supply (Dell power supplies are normally underpowered) issue and the needs of the computer, then it is likely the power supply which has died. What is the brand name and wattage of your power supply? (look on the side of the supply when you take the side off the case) BTW, if that is the issue, you may have also taken some parts with the power supply if it was underpowered. One won't know until we have more details.
