[SOLVED] Problem w HIS 3870 ICE3Q
hello everyone.
i was reading other ppls posts trying to troubleshoot my computer, but i just cant figure it out. i built my machine its got the following parts ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard, RADEON HD 3870 HIS ICE3Q videocard, Athlon 5600 dual core 64 , 4GB ram, 500GB HD some parts where new, some used new off ebay. my buddy got the vid card in after i had left for taiwan. now im back. anyways. he installed it, and had to get an adapter for the 6pin aux power, cuz i had an older 550w powersupply. the computer did the one long 2 short beep code of your "Videocard is bad" he switched it from the 1st PCI-E 16 slot to the 2nd, wich only reads at 8x. it worked! but only for a few days. he switched it back after 3 days thinking, well, if it works, it should work in the right slot. it did. for 2 more days. than when he tried to turn it on again, it was doing the beeping thin again. now im back, 2 months later and the computer still wont turn on. we bought a new 550 wat powersupply its own SATA power cables and teh 6pin aux for the vid card. ive tried everything. resetting the bios, uninsalling the card, putting it back in the other slot, even tkaing out themotherboard and trying to turn it on w it not screwed in just in case it was being grounded (i read on another post that this could happen) im already down 20bucks for the adapters, plus now $60 for thenew powersupply. i REALLY dont want to buy another $150 videocard. plus, now im broke. any recommendations on what i can try to get this machine working? if i cant figure it out soon, i think my buddy is just gonna take it to the local tech store and have them look at it. but thats $30 and they may just tell us we need a new video card. from what i can tell, the M2N SLI deluxe does not have onboard video im planning on taking the video card to a friends house to test it in his rig, but hew lives kinda far away. im in japan btw, so the current is a little different. because of this, i tried switching the switch (on my now japanese psu) to 230 from 150. it made the beeping go away, but no video comes out and the hubs no longer power my mouse and keyboard. im all out of ideas, and i have a now pretty expensive computer lying useless on its side. btw, if this is not the right place for this question, feel free to move it to the right one. thanks! -carlos |

Re: Problem w HIS 3870 ICE3Q
the psu he bought is meant mainly for an older system not pcie from what i could find it does not put out enough amps on the 12+ lines to support pcie
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...corsair%2b550w you need to know what voltage the system puts out in the country you are in usually usa 115v europe 230v the last thing you would want to do is set it at 115v and then send 230v through it set it up out of the case on a piece of cardboard with cpu video ram speaker and see if you get post check you have the correct amount of standoffs no more no less that they line up with the holes in the m/board usually 9 cmos reset turn the computer off remove the power lead from the back take the side off remove the cmos battery move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2 reinsert the battery put the side on replug in the power lead boot the computer there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver 2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper a cmos clear switch or button there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual http://www.gbaudio.co.uk/data/mains.htm
