First Build, No Signal
I thought I had a video card problem as the fan wouldn't come on so I RMA'd it but I still have the same problem of no signal. I have wondered about my ram memory as I went on the cheap for it & graphics.
Asus P5Q Pro Wolfdale E8500 PC Power & Cooling 750W PowerColor AX3850 video Western Digital Caviar SE 500GB 7200RPM Sata Kingston 2GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Seems like I have power everyplace. Everything else turns on but not the video card fan & no signal on monitor. Be easy on me now, I'm just a noob at this. Thanks! |

Re: First Build, No Signal
aux 5 pin power to the video card hooked up?
If so make sure the card is fully seated in the board and lastly try this to eliminate the possibility of a grounding issue or a stand off in the wrong spot > How to Bench Test Your System |

Re: First Build, No Signal
I have made sure the power plug is detected. I have taken the card out reseated it numerous as well as trying other pci power plugs. Tomorrow I will pull everything out and bench test as you suggest.

Re: First Build, No Signal
Have taken everything out for bench test. Did not observe any burn marks on the mobo or the case wall. With everything else disconnected I get the same behavior; no signal. I know that there is power going to the card because the fan jumps everytime I turn the power off. Is it my luck to have received two bad cards from newegg or is something else causing the problem?

No I don't have another one. I'll RMA again but I won't be requesting anymore ATI cards..Have always had good luck with nvidia so I will try one of them next.

Re: First Build, No Signal
Short of installing another card is there a way to test? I forgot to mention that I had tried both of my pci slots with same result. What's kinda bugging me is doesn't the fan turn on?

Re: First Build, No Signal
That is correct, it does not turn on. When I turn the power off it jumps. This is what led me to suspect the video card to begin with, but the second one from newegg is doing the same thing.

Re: First Build, No Signal
Yes, this card only has one 6 pin connector. Thanks for reminding me about the 8 pin connector as I did have the 4 pin hooked up. Still no change after correcting that however.

Re: First Build, No Signal
It bothers me that the fan on the video card isn't spinning any way you could test the card in another pc maybe a friends? Or a known working card in this MB?

Re: First Build, No Signal
Well, I wasn't able to get the card tested Saturday. I did come across some useful information on the eggxpert forums. http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/396387.aspx It would appear that I'm not the only one with this problem on a Asus P5Q Pro. I have gone over my 30 days so I will try to contact Asus support and see what they have to say.
