RAdeon on a Nvidia chipset?
hi guys..my hunt for an affordable graphix card aint over yet..!! i was contemplating upon 8800 and 9800 GT and decided upon 8800 GT. Now my locally made 450 W PSU needs changing. so far so good.http://www.techsupportforum.com/imag...1-rolleyes.gif
now one doubt...My friend suggested ATI radeon 4850 as another option. will it run in my motherboard..ASUS M2n MX( guess it has Nvidia chipset, onboard 7100 GT) should i re install entire OS?( xp sp2) kindly clarify. |

Re: RAdeon on a Nvidia chipset?
While, undoubtably an NVIDIA card will be optimized on an NVIDIA chipset, there is no rule saying that an ATi card shouldn't work on an NVIDIA chipset or an NVIDIA card on an AMD chipset. For a video card you shouldn't have to reinstall the entire OS, just make sure you have removed all instances of any old video drivers, especially if they are NVIDIA drivers before installing the card and its drivers. And don't forget to disable your onboard video when the new card is in, unless you want to use it for dual-monitor support.

Re: RAdeon on a Nvidia chipset?
No , you never want to mix ati with nvidia cards. Whether it be two cards or one card and the onboard. Since the onboard is an nvidia 6100 , the hardware would conflict with the ati card even if the onboard was disabled. I would play it safe and take the nvidia option.
If you just had an nvidia chipset you would be ok for an ati card. But the board has an integrated nvidia gpu , so stick with nvidia.

Re: RAdeon on a Nvidia chipset?
ATI cards on Nvidia chip sets can be a problem because the drivers won't play nice together you need the Nvidia chipset drivers to run the motherboard so you can't uninstall them. I would go for the 9800GTX or 9800GT
