Brand New GTX 280 Fried?
bought a new gtx 280 graphics card for my computer. I needed a new power supply because it was only 580 and upgraded to 650. also the 580 Power supply dint have the right connectors let alone enough connectors to hook up the card.
Well i put in the power supply. right off the bat there was a problem.. the powersupply dint seem to have a 4 pin connector for one of the plug ins on the motherboard. So i dont know if i need that exactly or what the purpose is, (its right by the processor, but its not to power the processor as far as i know). i put all the plugs back in there places and hooked up the video card and connected the pins. turned on the computer. first thing i notice is it seems the computer dint seem to start up right or at least i dint sound like the computer was on at first (it might of just been because my old video card fan was pretty loud). but everything was on the lights no beeping sounds or anything. but my monitor wasnt getting a signal i tried taking out the HD cable putting it back in, tried using the adapter i tried everything and the thing wasnt picking up a signal... So i open it back up and i touch the video card and its hot. i mean really hot. I had to let it sit for about 5 minutes before i even tried to attempt to take it out. nothing looked wrong except it seems there might be a little melted/burned spot right above the cards pci slots. its small not really sure if it is fried or thats just the way it looks. anyway what would cause the video card to get so hot? and would this indicate my card is fried since i couldnt get a signal? Im about to ship it back out so i wanna know if maybe this can be fixed? |

Re: Brand New GTX 280 Fried?
if it's a square 4 pin plug then that is the cpu power 2 yellow and 2 black wires.
Your new supply probably has a 8 pin that slides apart into 2, 4 pin connectors. |
