Common display problem, all help appreciated.
Ok ill do a quick run through of what has happened to me in the last few days. I was using my computer 2 days ago during a storm and we had a little power outage, so my PC hardbooted off. I just went off to bed. The next morning when i woke up, i turned my PC on and the monitor remained on standby, i used my monitor check button and the monitor is in perfect condition. I opened my computer, and reinserted all components. Sometimes that works when i have a minor problem like this. When i turn the PC on fans are running, everything is working perfect from what i can see. Ive tried a hundred things, and the monitor just isnt working.
THEN THIS HAPPENED!!!! I have two VGA ports on my PC. Instead of connecting my monitor directly to the video card (which i have been doing for the last ~2 years, and its been working excellent), i decided to connect it to the other VGA slot (which i believe just goes directly to the mobo). The computer WORKED PERFECTLY. I have a Gateway and it has some Nvidia 6100 built on too it. I did buy a ATI RADEON X1600 pro though, this is the card ive been using for the past 2 years. So the computer did turn on, but it loaded the crappy built in Nvidia card. NOTE::: When i try to start my computer normally, with the VGA going straight to the ATI card, the fan on the Videocard is still spinning, so its deffinetly working. From what ive read, and self-analysis i believe that the motherboard is not detecting the videocard. Im pretty sure nothing is broken. Thanks for any help. Ill be checking this and other posts often. |

Re: Common display problem, all help appreciated.
it sounds like you lost the 12v line on the psu
see if you can borrow another one to try in it min required amp output on the 12v line agp=18amps pcie=26amps

Re: Common display problem, all help appreciated.
If my 12v line isn't working, wouldnt my computer not start? By the way, i have been moving my pc alot recently, maybe it offset the mobo?
Im pretty sure my vid card just isnt being detected, my friend is bringing over a few 12v lines now. Ill see if it works. my vid card is receiving power, the fan on it is working great. Last edited by pwnertom; 11-04-2008 at 07:31 AM. |

Re: Common display problem, all help appreciated.
gateway are notorious for their power supplies failing
there may be enough power for fans ect to run but not enough to run the video and cpu see if the bios lists your 12v line voltage

Re: Common display problem, all help appreciated.
its not a stock psu. when i bought my vid card i also grabbed an antec 600 and an extra fan. I tried a new 12v and it had no effect. Im going to try using a dvi instead of vga, the socket might be broken.

Re: Common display problem, all help appreciated.
try resetting the video up
boot from the onboard in the device manager disable the onboard if the card is listed uninstall it turn the computer off install the card change the video cable from the onboard to the card reboot into the bios check to see if you can disable the onboard in there and set it to detect agp or pcie first save and exit the bios tapping f8 and choose vga mode when windows finishes booting disable a/virus install your drivers for the card reboot the computer
