evga 8800gt SC Edition Problem

Hi,

I bought a a Geforce EVGA 8800 GT 512 MB video card about 1 month ago. I put the computer together about 3 weeks ago. Since yesterday I started noticing that when I boot my computer I get distorted graphics even before windows xp boots up, sort of thin colored stripes. On BIOS screen they are some really thin colored lines. At some point I even noticed garbled text characters when I hit F8 and selected safe mode. Once I entered windows problem did not go away because I would get splashes of color around some parts of the screen.. I went to device manager and is said the device(video card) wont start. That there's a conflict. Please look at image for a reference. Moving windows is slow, but if I move them over the color stripes, the stripes go away on repaint. I tried this today, video card only worked about 5th reboot after I stayed on windows for a while.

My computer specs are:

Windows XP SP2
-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor, 2.40 GHz, 8M L2 Cache, LGA 775

-CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 X 1GB) PC2-6400 800Mhz 240-pin CL4 DDR2 Dual Channel Destop Memory Kit - TWIN2X2048-6400C4

-Western Digital WD3200KSRTL Caviar 320 GB SATA 3.5-Inch Hard Drive

-EVGA 512-P3-N802-AR e-GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB DDR3 Superclocked Edition PCI-Express Graphics Card

-XPX Case with stock 550 watt power supply

- ASUS P5K-E / Wi-Fi Ap

I'd really appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Re: evga 8800gt SC Edition Problem

I had a very similar problem with my 7600 GS, which was running smoothly for over 2 years. after i got a update from nvidia. system halted while playing rainbowsix vegas, and all text in the boot menu itself was garbled. WINDOWS was spelt as GINDOGS and so on. when i disabled it and activated the onboard card(geforce 7100) all was fine.
I thought problem was in the card and have now ordered for a 8800 GT. Your scene now scares me too,...! can it be due to some fault in the PCI slot or the motherboard itself? I have only 450 W PSU.

Re: evga 8800gt SC Edition Problem

Sorry to hear that soulrocker, I hope the new car works out for you. I'm gonna take it tomorrow to a more qualified technician, since I dont have a better PSU at hand or a different computer to test the video card on.

Still, I already ordered a better quality PSU, now I think I went cheap with that part.
