nVIDIA GeForce 8600GT BSOD & messed graphics
So, this problem has been bugging me for awhile now, wanted to post it here.
At random points in time, whether it would be searching the internet or playing PC games, the screen would start acting funny (things being glitchy, etc.). Then the screen would go black, display a "No Signal" (like if the computer was shut off but your monitor was on.) then a BSOD would appear. The BSOD error message would be "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed." Another problem I also find is when playing Call of Duty 4 on my PC. The graphics will start acting totally strange (not neccessarily inverting, but...it just acts strange in general) and it'll go back to normal then act funny again a few seconds later. Sometimes, it will act strange, then I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL then hit ESC to bring it back into the game. Even that only temporarily fixes the problem, as it will sometimes to the strange graphics thing again. Sometimes, the game will also start stuttering and just freezing in general, then I have to force shut it down, since I can't CTRL+ALT+DEL it and such. And other times, the graphics will start fuzzing out, and even after I close COD4 with the task manager, when I start moving my mouse, the fuzzing will start again, making me force restart the whole computer again. My drivers are already recent, and so is DirectX. Trying to change the fan speed to 100% using the nVIDIA Tools doesn't work (I see/hear no difference, even when loading the profile via nvProfile). RivaTuner and SpeedFan also can't increase it either. I haven't overclocked/underclocked anything at all, since I kinda don't want to risk it and such. The card is only around like 1-1.5 months old, since this was a replacement of our old eVGA nVIDIA GeForce 8600GTS, which died sometime at the start of August, and before it died, it was also doing the strange graphics thing, except it was inverting the colors then crashing completely. We ordered the replacement from CyberPowerPC, because that's where we ordered our original computer from (which was last November), and we also had warranty on there. They said that the GTS wasn't being sold (or something like that) so they shipped us a regular 8600GT. And now it's acting funny and it's only been a month. I'm starting to think the card is starting to die, and that I have to call CPP support and ask for another one. Ok, computer stats. OS - Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition (32 bit) Graphics Card - eVGA nVIDIA GeForce 8600GT (with updated drivers) CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33 GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.3GHz RAM - 2046MB RAM (I believe it's 2GB RAM) Motherboard - MSI-7350 (Hmm...I just found its version is 1.0, I'll try and run an AutoUpdate from their site, and see if I can update anything) DirectX - DX10 Power Supply - Erm...any way I can find that out? Desktop Ordered computer from CyperPowerPC |

Re: nVIDIA GeForce 8600GT BSOD & messed graphics
to find out your power supply watts look on the back of the psu
sounds like card is dieing, but if its just general use also, then it sounds like an underpowered power supply get the Power supply Watts up and im sure we can easily point out the problem should be a sticker or so on the back of the psu

Re: nVIDIA GeForce 8600GT BSOD & messed graphics
The power supply sticker will be inside the case on the side of the power supply.
If you remove the side you should be able to see the fan on the video card, turn the pc on while watching the the fan will let you know if it is working or not, just keep your fingers out of the pc when you turn it on. |
