poor 3dmark score, permanent damaged card?
I have a geforce 9800GTX, and I have had problems with overheating card, resulting in artifacts and blue screens. I also had the dreaded nvlddmkm error.
So just now I took a 3dmark test, with 3dmark advantage, and my GPu got 5605, and CPU got 3957 This is way to low. I have experienced lag in games that should not lag (for example mass effect). So my question is, can it be that my card is permanently damaged because of the long exposure to heat, because my 9800 shouldn't get so low scores. If so, should I buy a new one? I'm not completely sure if I can get a new card, but I got my computer put together by a store, so I can probably send my card in. They will test it, and if it do indeed turn out to be damaged, I will probably get a new one. Because I have 3 year warranty on it. My spec: 9800GTX 512MB 2g ram (1gbx1gb) 550W psu Asus p5n-d motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz |

Re: poor 3dmark score, permanent damaged card?
you need at least a quality 650w with the card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...corsair%2b650w your better off going for the 750w http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...corsair%2b750w

Re: poor 3dmark score, permanent damaged card?
I have talked to a lot of people concerning the PSu issue, even the peopel who put together my pc told me 550w is enough. Plus, I don't really have any money. I have a tight moneyschedule that needs following XD
but i'l take a look into it, thanks for the reply. More info would be appreciated |

Re: poor 3dmark score, permanent damaged card?
when you buy a prebuilt computer unless you specify the components they are usually built to a price
the psu is usually generic as it only has to last out the warranty period

Re: poor 3dmark score, permanent damaged card?
It's not prebuilt, every part is handpicked by me, but it was not me who put it in the case. I chose the parts, and got it delivered on my door a few days later.

Re: poor 3dmark score, permanent damaged card?
Corsair Powersupply 550W Bulk, black, ATX/EPS, 120mm fan, 4xSATA, SLI
It was recommended for the 8800GT on the site, and 9800GTX and the 8800 are very similiar, so I thought it was ok. |

Re: poor 3dmark score, permanent damaged card?
9800gtx 108w /9800gtx oc 183w /8800gt 50w
as you can see there is a massive wattage pull between the cards

Re: poor 3dmark score, permanent damaged card?
so you are 100% sure it's my PSU that's too low? Is that why I have had some problems in the past? Such as artifacts in games, red pixels and brown dots, random crashes and generally messed up graphic glitches? And not to mention Nvlddmkm.sys has been restored error.
It all went away after I bought a sidefan for my case, and set up my fan speed though. I have thought about buying a new PSU, but it price can be overwhelming, since It can't go under my warranty. The shop who assembled my computer says it should be enough. The same shop who assembled it has a Corsair 1000W for roughly 300 USD, that has gotten only good reviews by customers. But again, that's expensive :S |

Re: poor 3dmark score, permanent damaged card?
it's a good investment if you plan on upgrading futher in the future
if not a 750 is plenty and half the price
