HD 4850 / Possible PSU problem..

Ok im new here, and this is the 4th site i've tried to get help with this problem which is driving me insane!

End of July i got a new rig + an HIS ATI HD4850
Rigs specs:
Intel Dual-core 3.2ghz
4GB Corsair RAM
250GB Samsung HDD
Windows XP Service Pack 3
Gigabyte G3M MoBo
500W ATX PSU

Even though 500W is the minimum required power for an ATI HD4850 i decided to give it a shot... All worked perfectly for about 2 months with minimal errors... However as of about a week or 2 ago, randomly during gaming or even just word processing with almost nothing running.. The card would seemingly just turn off, monitor would not recieve a signal and GPU Fan speed would increase slightly before dropping...
The graphics card would still 'run' though, as the fan wouldnt turn off and it sounded like it was running, but just no signal to the monitor.

These incidents increased in frequency over the next few weeks until now, when i cant even get past the boot-up screen without the card shutting down..

The PC runs perfectly when using the on-board VGA.

I have tried uninstalling/cleaning/re-installing/downgrading/upgrading the drivers with no effect at all.
I have also updated the bios.

Anybody have any ideas on how to help me? It would be GREATLY appreciated.

p.s. Ive checked inside the tower a million times and i know every cable is connected properly and there are no loose ones, so thats not the problem.

p.s.s. Another thing which may be of some help is that when i go desktop>rightclick>properties>screensaver, There is no "Energy Saver" or whatever icon under the Monitor Power section which im CERTAIN was there no more than a few weeks ago (screenie attatched) which is what led me to believe it could be a PSU problem..

What Brand and Model PSU?
What Brand and Model PC?
Energy Star logo would have nothing to do with the PSU being bad or not.

umm.. as far i can tell its a
Amaroo 650 Platinum ATX500W PSU

and as for brand of PC.. if you mean the computer as a whole it doesnt have a brand as it was bought from a pre-built PC warehouse.

Re: HD 4850 / Possible PSU problem..

Can you borrow a PSU to test with I found nothing Branded Amaroo so I suspect it's a low quality generic unit.
Does it have a label on the psu inside the case that lists the amp ratings for the 3,3v, 5v and 12v rails?
