Nvidia 5200 Driver Error

I have an NVidia 5200 PCI in my comp, but I can't update the drivers without my system restarting and giving my odd colors and an unchangeable of a whopping 320 by 240... I then have to install the OLD driver that came with the card, and I have to attempt games on that. I know for a fact it ran everything better with updated drivers. Any suggestions?

Also, a buddy of mine has a NVidia 6200 AGP with a missing transistor, we have tried alternate transistors with no results. I stayed at his house this past weekend and we actually got the card to function without the transistor for about 8 hours of Spore... After we collapsed from exaustion at 7:00 AM, he left his computer on till around 1:30 PM and it ceased to function. He's an idiot, at time, but he deserves a working graphics card. He's convinced that the glob of super glue he left on there after one of his failed transistors fell off allowed the card to function. If anyone has a 6200, I can even tell you what sector the part fell off of.

P.S. Spore is awesome, even runs on my crappy card! Sucks about the 3 install limit though.

My System

Re: Nvidia 5200 Driver Error

I would throw the 6200 away and not attempt to repair it. You could easily fry the gpu or motherboard by not installing the correct resister or installing it backwards. The 6200 is about 35$ new nowadays and I would suggest you simply purchase a new proper working one.

As for the 5200 , try updateing the drivers via the device manager and letting it connect to the internet.

Re: Nvidia 5200 Driver Error

Well it was worth a shot, but he'll just have to shell out the $. As for installing the drivers through the device manager, I have tried it and it says no updates can be found and/or no new updates are available.
