BFG 9800GTX x2 in sli

Hi Guys

I have built the following system:

Intel Core Duo E8400 3.0ghz
2x Pioneer blue ray writers
ASUS striker extreme mobo
OCZ reaper pc2-6400 ddr2 ram - 8GB
BFG Geforce 9800 GTX+ OC x2 (sli)
Thermaltake Armor VE2000BWS liquid cool case
Thermaltake Toughpower 850Watt PSU
Maxtor 500GB sata 2 HD x2

I have not set it up yet, due to a potential problem with my new PSU.

The BFG9800 GTX has 2x 6pin pcie power connectors per card,
My PSU however only has 2 x 6 pin and 1x 8pin (with optional 6 pin adaptor)

am I right in assuming this is no use and that I will have to get a different PSU? I was planning on adding a 3rd card in sli to this system soon, so I need any suggestions as to how to power these cards.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Re: BFG 9800GTX x2 in sli

Thanks v much, Just ordered one, looks like it means business anyways.

btw, what version of windows do you recomend for use with the 3way sli?

thinking dual boot with xp pro and vista ultimate, guessing for driver compatibility it will have to be the 32bit version tho.

cheers

I say stick with xp. Only because I see vista as a bump in the road that you don't really have to go over. No sence in spending money on vista since they are coming out with windows 7 and especially if you already have an xp disk.

Although thats my opinion , if you like to buy it then you can of course.

only reason i switched was XP crashed definitively, and i could get ultimate 32 bit on steep student discount.

Re: BFG 9800GTX x2 in sli

I am also in the process of building a slightly lesser games mchine,

Asus commando extreme mobo
Intel Core duo E8400 (3ghz) stock speed for now
Crucial pc5700 ddr ram (4gb)
500 gig maxtor sata hard drive
samsung dvd writer with lightscribe x2
and my redundant thermaltake toughpower 850w psu

I have read about some drivers that allow the use of 2 nvidia cards in sli on this board (for those who dont know, this is a crossfire board) How reliable are these drivers?

Im not keen on buying ATI cards, but thas my personal preference.

cheers

ATi has completely whooped nvidia for the next 6 months or so when comparing price brackets. Had i knew the 4850 was going to come out shortly after i got my 9800GTX, i'd have got the 4850 instead.

Re: BFG 9800GTX x2 in sli

I would consider a 64bit Vista version with that much memory addressing required...
