[SOLVED] Problem with BFG 6800 GT OC AGP graphics card
I have a BFG 6800 GT OC card that I bought second hand so I am not going to get any help from BFG Tech. I had it installed and it was working just great when one day I was running Flight Simulator X and it all of a sudden developed broken vertical blue lines about 1 inch wide on the screen. I took it out and put in my old ATI 9800 Pro and everything was fine. A few weeks later I reinstalled the BFG 6800 but still had the same blue lines. Even with the card in the system but drivers not yet installed. Just being in the computer causes the problem. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Re: Problem with BFG 6800 GT OC AGP graphics card
see if you can borrow a larger wattage psu to try in it
to put the nvidia card in you need to ininstall all the ati drivers and software first or they will conflict with nvidia

My girlfriend's PC was running the same card without problems. In your case I say it's that weak PSU that's causing your problems.

Re: Problem with BFG 6800 GT OC AGP graphics card
This video card was working perfectly for about 2 months. I think the 420 watt power supply should be adaquate. What concerns me most is that if I completely uninstall my ATI card then put the BFG in I get the vertical blue lines even from the very first screen when it shows the mother board logo and offers the option to go into the bios by pressing DEL. Keep in mind that I haven't even installed the software for the BFG yet. This looks like a physical problem with the card itself. What could be the possibilities?

most of these turbolink units were pure junk but were ok before the demands of the P4 came in

Re: Problem with BFG 6800 GT OC AGP graphics card
I suppose it could be the power supply but it did work great for 2 or 3 months. Also the ATI Radeon 9800 I have in there now is working just fine. both units were hooked up to the same power supply plug. I may try a new power supply but I was thinking about buying a whole new system with a lot of game power. I may have to hold off til the economy looks a little more stable. The longer you wait the more you can usually get for less. If I do get it going I will post the story.

So, I purchased a new Corsair 450W power supply and hooked it up, but nothing has changed. I believe the wide blue lines in the opening screens are due to not having any driver loaded yet. Because when it gets to the login screen the screen looks normal. When I go to install the driver it all looks good until the install wizard starts, the progress bar goes about half way then stops and about 30 seconds later the computer goes to blue screen. I went to the nvidia website and downloaded an updated driver (dated 10/2008). I was able to install this driver but after going through the login screen the monitor goes black and I have to reboot into safe mode and disable the driver. And I am back where I started.
Anyone got any ideas? |

Re: Problem with BFG 6800 GT OC AGP graphics card
I got a reply from BFG Tech. He suggested using a program called Driver Cleaner Pro to scrub away all pieces of old drivers then install the Nvidia driver from safe mode. That did the trick. It seems to be working great now. I believe the new power supply has made some improvements too. Thanks for your help.

Re: Problem with BFG 6800 GT OC AGP graphics card
glad you have it sorted
whenever you change the drivers you have to uninstall the old before installing the new ones
