I Need an answer for a dead onboard video
Hi
I have a regular computer that I use daily. Basically the onboard video is not working because someone yank the monitor cord connected to the tower and I'm getting a no signal display on the screen. I was wondering if I were to buy a video card and plug it in, would it automatically show a display so I can install the drivers or do I have to install the drivers to the computer before the graphic card starts working...if I have to install the drivers first, any chance this can be done if I have no screen display? My only guess is that I would end up buying a new motherboard. Thanks for answering............. Specs I could remember......... Asus P5gd1-vm Motherboard Pentium 4, 3.4ghz 1gig ram 450watt powersupply 40gb main ide hdd Running on Xp |

Re: I Need an answer for a dead onboard video
Welcome to tsf.
If someone yanked out the motherboard cord they could have damaged other things besides the video. If the cpu or ram was damaged in any way that would also cause the pc to power on with no video. It might be cheaper if you found and old motherboard on ebay with onboard video for like 30 or 40$. You can also buy a cheapo videocard to see if that will work too. If the board has an agp or pci-e slot then it should automatically switch to it when a card is installed and display basic color for you to install the drivers.
