HIS Radeon 3850 AGP Won't Post/Display

Hi, I'm in a bit of a bind, here so I'm resorting to asking for advice (it feels so shameful). Anyhow, here's my problem. I built my own computer a little while ago and have been slowly upgrading it, as need and money allow. Recently I decided that I wanted a spanking new graphics card, so I bought the HIS Radeon 3850 AGP Card. Honestly I meant to buy the Sapphire and have since been told that HIS may have been a mistake, but I can't get my money back, I can only exchange it for the same thing, so if anyone feels that I need to be told that, trust me I already know. Anyhow I have run a variety of different graphics cards through my computer most, if not all of them ATI and never had a problem setting, booting and installing a new card, but this card is different. I have plugged it into my motherboard and connected the power cable, and when I turn the computer on the card seems to start up fine, the fan runs everything powers up like it should, except the monitor wont display anything. If I switch the monitor cable over to my motherboard it turns on and shows me that my computer has successfully booted and loaded windows, so I have no conflicts with my existing hardware. Why won't my card work what could be the problem, I don't know.

Things I've tried: Updating my BIOS, Resetting my BIOS (although admitedly I havn't waited the requisit half hour between rebooting after changing the jumper over).

My System:
Motherboard:MSI K8MM-V 754 Socket (Its a pile, but it's been stable)
Processor: Athlon AMD 3000+
RAM:1.5 Gigs DDR RAM (I can get manufacturer for this if needed)
Soundcard: Soudblaster Audigy Z2
Video Card: HIS Radeon 3850 AGP 512MB 1080P
Power Supply: 750 Watt Cooler Master
BIOS: Pheonix 6.0
ROM Drives: Memorex DVD+-RAM 530L v1/Sony DVD RW DRU-800A
Hard Drive:ST3250620A 250GB
Monitor: Sony SDM-HS75

That's all I could dig up at short notice, hope it's enough

P.S. Everyone I know who owns a desktop recently moved, so I can't test this card in another computer without paying for it, but I already RMA'd it for the same problem, it could be a bad card, but I'm kinda thinkn' it isn't.

My System

Re: HIS Radeon 3850 AGP Won't Post/Display

Welcome to tsf.

We get these problems alot. Ati's newer agp card are really made for newer agp machines. Most people assume they are made to revive older agp machines. These new ati agp card require specific bios updates to support them , and since older machines don't get bios updates for newer cards, most end up not working.

By new agp machine I mean anything from about 2007 or newer. They do still make agp boards as a budget option. My solution would have been to update your bios to the latest version but since you have and it hasn't worked then I think your out of luck.

Re: HIS Radeon 3850 AGP Won't Post/Display

Who the hell would buy an AGP mobo in 2007 anyway? If your mobo is not made by retarded company and is AGP 4x and higher compatible, things must work. AGP card ain't CPU and does not need bios updates to be supported!

HIS is cool, way better than Sapphire, you made the right choice.
Try changing AGP aperture size in BIOS. Mine 3850 AGP wouldn't show anything unless AGP aperture is set at 128 or 256 megs.

Re: HIS Radeon 3850 AGP Won't Post/Display

I'm having a similar problem. However, I have the Sapphire flavor of this card. I to have ran numerous vid cards through my system and this is the first time I have had a problem. My system specs are below. When I first installed the card I was able to access the bios but after a restart everything went black. The problem seemed to carry over even after I put my old card back into my machine but I was able to restore my display after pulling the bios battery for several minutes. If I run my system on default settings in the bios my card works (I was able to crank the aperature up to 512 without it blacking out).

I guess my question is what are the max settings I can run (without spending hours of testing each setting) to optimize my system and the use of this beefy card.

Motherboard: Asus A7V8X-X
CPU: AMD Athlon Barton 3000
Ram: 2.5g Kingston PC2700 (2x 1gig, 1x 512mb)
Bios: 1014.002
PowerSupply: 500watt
