major problem

i built this computer a couple of weeks ago...
ive had a few problems but finally i seemed to of reached a point where nothing was going wrong :)
untill everytime i open up a large application- like GRID racer, it crashes and error shows APPCRASH. now i found out this was only temporary because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

however i thought maybe updating all the drivers for my graphics card would help... but when i open device manager theres nothing listed ther... so i looked in display settings- advanced and nothing there either. (i thought it was a bit strange when vistas marking thingy read 1/5 for a 8800gt).

but the weird thing is - i know from past experience that when there is no graphics card, scrolling through pages is really laggy and all that. but everything seems fine accept for games.

what should i do?

thanks

specs
8800gt alpha dog
vista 64 bit
4 gig of ram
core duo 2
coolmaster truepower 620

Re: major problem

Install the drivers for your motherboard, then graphics drivers if you haven't done so already. Otherwise try a repair installation of Windows.

Re: major problem

i have just installed drivers for motherboard and tryed the graphic drivers, but it reads- The nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware, setup will now exit. great!!
so i found the drive cd the card came with and thn a new error reads- The VGA detected seems not XFX's product. please got nvidia site... bla bla bla.

thanks for the quick reply.

Re: major problem

If your motherboard has integrated graphics disable it in case it's conflicting with your 8800GT. Failing that a repair installation is probably the only choice you have, unless anybody else has any suggestions. Did you by chance take the Windows installation from a different computer?

Re: major problem

Try a PS/2 keyboard if your mobo has the port, or a wired USB keyboard.
