s-video output to television secondary display
hello.
I have a lenovo 3000 n200 laptop 0769 with an integrated intel graphics system and i'm trying to use my analog ntsc television as a secondary display. I'm connecting the laptop to the computer with a standard s-video cable, from the s-video output on the laptop to the s-video input on the television. The television is a CITIZEN brand, and I know that the input and cable are perfectly functional. I've downloaded drivers from the lenovo support site, and when i go into my graphic cards TV wizard utility, it doesn't allow me to select s-video as the connection method, i'll press next, and it won't go farther than that. It will however allow me to choose other methods that are not even existant on the machine. I can choose composite video for example. I am pretty sure that there is some type of error happening at the operating system level, specifically the drivers. I don't know why the downloaded driver updates don't allow me to configure my television, nor allow me to properly select s-video as the output device. Could somebody please elaborate on how to fix this issue, and go into as much detail as possible. I'm really baffled. Thanks... |

Re: s-video output to television secondary display
Have you tried going with the composite video setting anyway? I mean that's also for television output. Can't guarantee it'll work but it's something to try.

Re: s-video output to television secondary display
hi. i've actually figured out the answer to my own problem.
on the lenovo 3000 n200 0769, in order to properly use a television as the secondary monitor. you simple need to download the updated video driver from the lenovo drivers download site. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...IGR-67855.html then once the driver is downloaded use it's self extractor to put the driver files in a directory. open the driver install for the video card and let it install. now in a subdirectory of where the self extractor placed the driver installer there is a secondary installer called tv wizard. you need to install that too. once the tv wizard is installed, and the laptop is connected to the tv via the s-video cable, the tv must be set to s-video, and to configure the second display use the manual config on the tv wizard and choose the type of tv you have. i have ntsc m, so when i choose that, it works. * the tv wizard is a little buggy so sometimes you have to try a bunch of times to get the manual config to show up. sometimes to get it to properly show up it's a matter of unplugging the s-video cable and plugging it back in so you hear a windows ding. i really hope this helps solve anybody elses problem. it was kinda funny, as i was on the phone with lenovo tech support and on hold, and while on hold i figured it out myself. when the guy took me off hold i had to tell him that i didn't need his help now. |

Re: s-video output to television secondary display
Hi,
I looked into your original post and found the link. I followed the instructions from there and downloaded the recommended video drivers. Now the VIDEO DRIVER version on my system has changed to the one that i got from the link and even got the tv wizard configured. It still gets stuck in the third step of tv wizard where one has to select the s-video option. I have even tried to plug the cable in and out to get the ding sound, but to no avail. Can you please tell me where else could i be going wrong. |

Re: s-video output to television secondary display
Hi again.
I have that same problem once and a while too. The trick is to make sure you have your speakers on, and the system un-muted so you can hear the system sounds. Try taking out the s-video from the back of the laptop, and plugging it back in. When you hear the system (DING) sound or whatever it is indicated a device has been plugged in, your in business. What you want to choose is a manual setup instead of the automatic detection one. Something goes wrong here sometimes and it brings you to the Select device type where it lists s-video, component, etc... If you get it right it should pop up with a selector that allows you to choose the television format (NTSC M, NTSC M J, etc) If you get this pop up, choose the proper format for your tv, probably NTSC M if your in America. It should send the signal to your television and you'll see the computers screen there. Hopefully that should help you out. I know it's frustrating as the utility should just work right and do so easily. It takes some patience sometimes, but other times it works right away. That oughtta do ya... |
