Monitor Issue
Hello,
I have a Dell desktop with a Westinghouse 19" flatscreen LCD monitor. Since I got my computer in January, the monitor was plugged into the graphics card slot on my computer with no issue. However, I was playing a game in full screen yesterday when i got an instant message, closing the game window. When I pulled the game back up, the screen got distorted then went blank. I shut down the computer by holding the power button and when I re-started, the screen would not turn on as well. The light on the monitor was orange (which usually means it is on, but the computer is not). I switched the plug from the graphics card slot to the monitor slot and it seems works fine now. I want to know if there is a problem I should be concerned about and if I will need to do something to,or (hopefully not) replace my graphics card. I believe the graphics card is ATI. Thanks for any help as this is my first post. |

Re: Monitor Issue
Running Windows Xp Home Edition 2002, service pack 2
Video Card - Intel(R) GMA 3100 (i think right now) Video Card I believe may be the problem - ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO (RV610-DT LE) CPU - Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2140 @ 1.60GHz m/board - Model - Dell Inc. 0RY007 m/board chipset - Intel G33 (Bearlake-G) + ICH9R ram - 1014 MB Brand - Dell Unfortunately, I am not very good with hardware things and I am not sure how to find the power supply, wattage, and Temp/Voltage in Bios. If you need them, then can you briefly tell me how to find them (I am not completely computer illiterate and should be able to find them with proper directions). In addition to the original problem, I tried booting up this morning and the problem happened with the monitor plugged into the monitor slot and it took several attempts of switching it from the graphics card slot to the monitor slot again before it came up. No error messages |

Re: Monitor Issue
To your original problem, I had the same thing happen once and it was because my graphics card was fried (dog peed on it long story) when I replaced it and everything worked fine as for you second problem I have no clue. If you don't have the money to spend (who dose now a days) I would wait for someone a bit more knowledgeable like dai to answer back.

No error messages] if the card is in then this will acheive nothing as it will only run from the card the onboard is disabled to enable the card take the side off the case and look at the label on the side of the power supply for current voltage and tempretures look on the advanced page of the bios for hardware monitoring or some similar wording and click on it having to restart before it comes up usually indicates the power supply is either underpowered or faulty or both

Re: Monitor Issue
I was unable to find the temp in the BIOS.
However, I replaced the VGA Cable, with a DVI one and have not had the problem in the few days since. All my programs and games run fine so I will not tamper with anything until the problem comes back. Thanks for the help, and hopefully this simple change will work for good. |
