Gameplay with Crysis

Hi

I just bought a ATI Radeon HD 4870 video card & when playing Crysis with it the gameplay is jerky on most of the levels. Just wondering is it the Video card or something else?

My computer specs:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ 2.5GHz
Motherboard: GA-M57SLI-S4
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4870
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 7200RPM SATA II 16MB
RAM: 2GB DDR2 667Mhz PC2-5300
PSU: 800 watt

Running Windows Vista Ultimate SP1

Re: Gameplay with Crysis

Welcome to tsf. Its probably just the cpu lagging behind. Crysis is more of a 3d bench mark then a game. You would need a monster to play it absolutly smooth. There do exist better looking games that run perfectly on lower end machines. And thats because they made crysis purposely to push the boundaries of the modern computer and even future ones.

Is it unplayable? Or just a tad laggy? What settings do you have it at? Also , if your running it higher then 1280x1024 , just turn off the AA all together. Theres no need for it in the high resolutions really. Close other cpu intensive programs too while playing.

Re: Gameplay with Crysis

I would have to say over all its your cpu but make sure and end any cpu intensive programs or anything unessary.

Since the resolution has to do with the graphics card alone and not the cpu , max out the resolution that your monitor supports. If it laggs more then there may be a problem there because a 4870 should do quite well. Also could you post the make and model powersupply your useing?

Re: Gameplay with Crysis

PSU: AcBel R8 700

I maxed out the resolution & was just the same. I had a feeling it was the CPU.

Also would upgrading to 800 Mhz RAM make any difference in gameplay or is it alright?

Re: Gameplay with Crysis

I've seen Crysis play well at 1280x1024 max settings with a 4870 and AMD 9850 quad-core.

Re: Gameplay with Crysis

I overclocked it to 2.7 GHZ & game ran a bit better.

Was planning to upgrade my cpu. Would a faster dual core be all i need or should i get a Quad core. But if i get a Quad core i will have to get another Motherboard.

If you dont mind me intruding i have a gecube 3870x2 turbo 2 oc edition, 4gigs of corsair, 750w corsair psu, cpu daul core 3.2, ect.. and i run crysis on very high all plus force aax16 and aax4 in game with no probs runs smooth as hell, so i guess a normal duel core just stronger should be ok.

Just my opinion

Re: Gameplay with Crysis

You should spank it in with that card. Make sure you have all the latest patches.

BTW, since the CUDA drivers came out from nVidia, i can play with a 8800GT on very high, quite smoothly. SUPRISINGLY!
