Is it worth Upgrading to a HD4850 512mb?
Hi,
At the moment i have a HD2600XT 512mb running in my PC. My PC has a AMD 6000 Dual Core running at 3.0ghz, Asus M2N MX Motherboard and 3gb of DDR2. I was just wondering if I would see a performance difference if I upgraded my video card to a HD4850? Im kind of worried that maybe my motherboard or cpu could hold me back and I wouldnt get the full potential of the video card. The motherboard doesnt support PCI-e 2.0 and i might need a new power supply. At the moment im running a 400w power supply with 20a on the 12v rail. Would my video card holding me back or would I need to upgrade everything else? I also noticed that after installing the AMD 6000 the motherboard started getting very hot and Asus probe started beeping, saying the motherboard was going over 55 degrees (not sure if thats bad or not). I now have a fan blowing on the board around the CPU, seems to keep it nice and cool (around 42) lol. Any help would be great!!! ![]() Thanks

Your PSU is under powered for what you currently are running, yes you will see a large performance gain from the 4850 but you will need a good quality 650w psu

Re: Is it worth Upgrading to a HD4850 512mb?
Not to keen to order online as it works out cheaper if I buy it straight from a store becasue of shipping. The computer store near me has the Corsair 620w and then the next one up is the Corsair 750w. Would the 620w be alright or would I need the 750w?
Also tryed using the online power test to see how much power my computer would be using and it said 350w, lol, dont think it works properly... |

The 620 is a good supply but because it modular it's more expensive, also it's on the edge of what you need what's the price difference between the 620 and the 750?

Re: Is it worth Upgrading to a HD4850 512mb?
Actually , a 550w would work to if your on a tight budget. The 4850 isn't as power hungry as its 4870 supirior and can run well on a 550w (since it uses ddr3 and lower clock speeds), I wouldn't go any lower tho. Course you can still get the 620/750w powersupply aswell for a future build that may require more power. Just make sure if you get like a 550w thats its a good brand with the proper amperage and all.
