[SOLVED] nvlddmkm stopped responding error.
Hi,
I need some help with a display driver error that keeps cropping up when I am playing a couple of games on my new PC, I've had the PC for 5 days. The games that the error appears most frequently in are Supreme Commander and Rome Total War. During play the screen goes black for a couple of seconds, game sounds can still be heard and do not appear to be repeating as if stuck, and then the screen returns to normal. If I then exit the game I can see a small yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it and the the following message pops up: 'Display Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered'. This message will appear for each time the the screen went balck during gameplay. I have tried running the games on the lowest resolution to no avail. I have also uninstalled the video card drivers and reinstalled them without success. I have included as much information below as I can think of to help with any resolution. Mainboard : Gigabyte P31-S3G Chipset : Intel P31/P35 Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3000 MHz Physical Memory : 2048 MB (1 x 2048 DDR2-SDRAM ) Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT Hard Disk : SAMSUNG (750 GB) DVD-Rom Drive : TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203D ATA Device Monitor Type : LG Electronics W2252 - 23 inches Network Card : Realtek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC Operating System : Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium Home Edition 6.00.6001 Service Pack 1 DirectX : Version 10.00 Windows Performance Index : 5.5 Video Card Driver: 175.19 Any help or assistance that can be given with this is greatfully appreciated. |

Re: nvlddmkm stopped responding error.
Having read so many of the queries relating to this issue on a basic Google search I think I may be getting off a little lightly. So far I have not had any BSOD and each time the screen blanks it is restored after a couple of seconds. Not an ideal situation but it could be a hell of a lot worse. I have contacted the PC manufacturer as I am still within my initial 14 days for further assistance with it.
If anyone has any suggestions as to how I can resolve it in the meantime I would be grateful for the help. |

Re: nvlddmkm stopped responding error.
mine was caused by overheating GPU, monitor your temps with either Atitool or rivatuner and post them here. Try setting up the fan speed, or even installing a new fan if the temps are too high

Re: nvlddmkm stopped responding error.
Hi,
The problem eventually worsened to the point that the black screen would appear so many times that it became unusable. I returned the base unit to the point of sale who verified that it had a faulty motherboard. They didn't have any of the same model so they upgraded it for free and even upgraded the power supply, so it kinda worked out well. No problems of any kind since. Thanks to everyone who responded. D. |
