Video card error?

I reasantly got a new computer, well a used "new" computer and when i try downloading a game to play of off the web it would not work. I looked in device manger and sure enough there was error symbol by the video card (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200) so i looked at the troubleshooter and tried a couple things, uninstalling it, then reinstalling it and downloading a updated drive, when that didn't work i tried to update DirectX but that hasn't helped either. There is the following error in Direct diagnostics tool that says "Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 42 (Query for D3D): HRESULT = 0x80004002 (No interface)" when i tested the the 3D acceleration. I have no idea what to try next and really have no idea with there is an error with the video card (installed wrong?) or directX. If some one could take a look at my problem and tell me what i can do to fix it that would be great. I hope with thread makes sense, it will probably be a little confusing to understand, sorry.

Re: Video card error?

  1. Download (but don't install yet) this: http://us.download.nvidia.com/Window...glish_whql.exe
  2. Download and install Driver Cleaner (but don't run yet): http://downloads.guru3d.com/download...2171476965c5ed
  3. Set a restore point.
  4. Uninstall the nVidia drivers from Add and Remove Programs.
  5. Restart in Safe Mode (tap F8 on Restart).
  6. Run Driver Cleaner for nVidia drivers.
  7. Restart again in SAFE MODE.
  8. Install the downloaded nVidia driver
  9. Restart normally.
  10. Update DirectX here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
  11. Update Windows via Windows Update.
  12. Restart computer normally and post results.

Re: Video card error?

aww okay when i try to play DVD's or games it just says that there is an error. Then if i unistall the video card and reinstall it it says there isn't an error, but i still can't play games or watch DVD i think maybe the video card or directX was installed wrong since there is an error with the 3D i don't really know how to explain it....srry

Re: Video card error?

When i go into device manger it says code 10 or something simular then when you disable and then enable it it works fine, in directX it says "Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer." and sometimes it will just say that there is an error with the 3D and the 3D will be working, when i try to play a DVD it says "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because it is not possible to turn on analog copy protection on the output display. Try installing an updated driver for your video card." I haven't tried playing it with a different program so maybe windows media player is the problem there. Any way i hope that helps let me know.

Re: Video card error?

Code 10 means that the driver couldn't start. Please download PC Wizard from my sig and install. Then run it and go to FILE< SAVE AS and click OK. Then copy the text out of that file into this thread... cheers
