Question [SOLVED] COD4 Error Message

When I start cod4 this message comes up

----- Initializing Renderer ----
----- Client Initialization Complete -----
Attempting 22 kHz 16 bit [Windows default] sound
----- R_Init -----
Getting Direct3D 9 interface...
Pixel shader version is 2.0
Vertex shader version is 0.0
Video card or driver doesn't accelerate transform and lighting.
Video card or driver doesn't support UBYTE4N vertex data.

Error during initialization:
Video card or driver doesn't support UBYTE4N vertex data.

I have been looking around the site and it seems that I either need to get a new graphics card or update my driver or buy a new computer(which i dont want to do). Am I right?

If not, what can I do. If so can you recommend where I can update or get a new card.

I will much appreciate any help
thanks

Re: COD4 Error Message

Hi, Magic
You are right, you either need a new video card or updated drivers or new pc.
But as you have'nt told us the name of your current graphics/video or anything else about your system we cannot help much.

Reply with the spec of your pc and we'll be able to advise.

How do I find out what I have got? Is it under computer properties or something? Device manager? I'm quite new to this sort of stuff so I'm not really sure what it is even called.

Will this help (I have no idea what it means. Is under General Computer Info)...
Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
2.79GHz, 504 MB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

Thank you very much for replying

Re: COD4 Error Message

Hi
Look in device manager, under Display Adapters. What does it say your card is?

Als, click on Start, then All Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, then System Information. In the right-hand pane, what does it say for System Manufacturer and System Model?

CoD4 needs a video card like the GeForce 6600 or Radeon 9800 Pro, or better.
You could also be doing with more memory.

Re: COD4 Error Message

Hi, bad news.
You're going to need a new System if you want to play CoD-4.
The system you have has Integrated Graphics, which are not able to play high-spec games and you cannot add a real Video Card, because the motherboard does not have a PCIexpress x16 or an AGP x8 slot.

Here's a list of the games you should be able to play;

Re: [SOLVED] COD4 Error Message

You know, I actually can play call of duty 4 on my pentium 3 machine. And it actually plays smooth. Its a very forgiving game.

my pentium 3 rig
pentium 3 dual 1.8 ghz
320mb ram
geforce 6200 256mb agp 4x

If you got a cheap geforce 6200 pci on ebay , you would be set. There about 20 to 40$

There you go, Magic. There's still hope!
I thought the last of the nVidia PCI cards was the FX5600, but we live and learn.

Re: [SOLVED] COD4 Error Message

Oh and stay away for the "LE" models. Stands for low energy and there horrible. And make sure its got 256mb or more.

Ya know , ati makes a 2400 pro pci. And its got directx 10 and it works. lol. But its 100$
