Problem with my ATI ALL-IN-WONDER X800 XT
Yes I semi recently purchased a computer off craigslist (Like 2 months ago).It was working great but the other day I was playing a game and the screen went off and i smelled a burnt smell, I opened up the computer and saw the power supply wires to the card burnt and a small part of the video cards power inserter is black.
When i try to turn it on it says Please insert power supply to video card or something in flashing red text Any idea how this would be fixed and the cost? |

Re: Problem with my ATI ALL-IN-WONDER X800 XT
It's not that hard. Some good ones are in the range of $80-150. You can install it yourself. All the wire seem intimidating, but it is actually pretty simple since they are mostly bundled together.

Re: Problem with my ATI ALL-IN-WONDER X800 XT
You need a new PSU, but i would borrow one first because you may have killed the graphics card, mobo and memory. Check the PSU link in my sig for more details.

Re: Problem with my ATI ALL-IN-WONDER X800 XT
I was browsing this thread randomly. Interestingly, that also happened to my All-in-Wonder 9800 Pro. Had the exact same red message and one of the pins on the power connector from the card was black. Anyway I replaced the card with an Nvidia GeForce4 MX4000 (didn't have money or time to research at the time, but apparently performance-wise it's a GeForce2-class card...) Within a few months got all kind of very strange errors (keyboard not responding, mouse not responding, DVD not responding, hard drives clicking on and off) which were really difficult to diagnose... but eventually a replacement for the power supply fixed it.
I wonder how often that happens to All-in-Wonder cards. They must draw a lot of voltage to feed all those components (TV, graphics, fan, etc.) |
