[SOLVED] ati a-i-w x800xt bsod / crashes

I have the ati all in wonder x800xt with 256mb ram, had this card for a number of years now and things are just getting worse. I had problems with compatibility, u know, crashes.. restarts, complete randomness. I hated ati catalyst control center and ati drivers, so i uninstalled it to try the omega drivers with the ati tray tools. Worked decent for some months, but then started getting crashes when I was hardly doing anything- sometimes just browsing the web watching a flick, then more and more often when gaming. Ive been getting bsods : "ati3daug.dll" was one error, sometimes another error with the 0x8E line, (that one is familiar from when i origionally used ati drivers) and now lately, sometimes a blank blue screen.

First i tried updating the omega drivers.. which seems to have not helped at all.. bsod just becomming more common. So i removed all drivers, tried a fresh omega install.. didnt like that at all.. after the restart my pc siad my graphics card was unrecognized and that the card could be unstable. I got tired of wasting my time with all of this again as a user of this card for years. Decided hell, ill go back to ati drivers just to get this over with- and so uninstalled everything agian. Reinstalled fresh ati.. soon as it was all finished launched a high graphics game. Instant crash.. The crashes happen more and more often now.. then instantly after i try to load a game. What am i doing wrong?? btw i did a system restore point before i installed the omega drivers for the second time, so.. when i had no drivers. Would it be wise to restore? Ive had restores go wrong before so please say if it Is a bad idea. I need help †.†
*ten minutes later* wth.. i go to check my add/remove programs list and I see the omega drivers "setup and tools" is still in there.. tho im sure i deleted it before i did ati install.. okay so i deleted it.. and restart.. go check agian.. still there. Is there some crazy way i need to uninstall omega drivers?

Re: ati a-i-w x800xt bsod / crashes

Hi,
Download these applications...
Driver Cleaner; which you can use to clean all the ATI drivers from your system....
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745

CrapCleaner; which will clean your system of obselete files and registry entries...
http://majorgeeks.com/download4191.html

Both are free and easy to use, but you should read the instructions before use.

Now, download the latest XP drivers for your card.
Uninstall all the ATI x800xt, Catalyst and Omega drivers and software from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Restart in Safe Mode and cancel Windows searching for drivers.
Run Driver Cleaner, select the ATI video drivers filter and run the cleaner. (Do not choose the ATI WDM filter)
Run CCleaner and it's registry cleaner, and say yes when it asks if you want to save your registry settings.

Restart and press F8 again whilst booting until the alternative startup options appear. Choose to Start in VGA Mode.
Using Task Manager, disable/stop all anti-virus and third-party applications & services.

Now install your fresh drivers. Restart and configure.

Re: ati a-i-w x800xt bsod / crashes

okay i've done all that you have said and testing it out with games to see if any more bsod come up. I really hope this is the answer to all my x800xt problems, but i somehow doubt the nightmare will ever be over. Thanx for your help =) will report my findings.

Re: ati a-i-w x800xt bsod / crashes

anyway i test the new install with a game, 20-30 minutes in.. bsod

New sypmtoms: After the reinstall of my omega drivers and ati tray, i get a popup telling me it may have encountered problems after last install, and my vid card shows up as a new hardware device in my taskbar. Also if i go look controlpanel> system> (hardware tab) Device manager> its showing my omega display drivers installed under Display adapters, (as normal) but a new yellow question mark under "other devices" if i click that i see "unknown device" rightclick and go properties, it shows it as:`
device type - "other devices"
manufacturer - "Unknown"
Location - "on all-in-wonder x800 series {Omega 3.8.422}"
Driver status - The drivers for this device are not installed"

why do i have 3 omega drivers showing?
shouldn't i just have the primary and secondary drivers listed under display adapters?

now what?

Re: ati a-i-w x800xt bsod / crashes

Why did you install the Omega drivers?
You want your system to be running with proper ATI drivers.

Trying to stick with what works??????

You're here cos it doesn't work...........lol.

You should uninstall ALL display drivers from Add/Remove Programs, then go into Device Manager and right-click on the names of your video cards and any unknown devices and select Uninstall.
Restart in safe mode. Put an XP disc in the drive.
Click on start> Accessories> Command Prompt and type sfc/scannow and let it run.

Restart in VGA Mode, cancel windows looking for drivers and let it load fully.
Open task manager and "end" any anti-virus or non-microsoft programs & processes.
Install ATI drivers, restart and play a game.

Re: ati a-i-w x800xt bsod / crashes

Hi,
if you go to Control Panel> System> Advanced> startup & recovery Settings> and uncheck the box that says "automatically restart" under System Failure........the next time you have a BSOD, it will stay on the screen and you can take a note of the exact error that's causing this heartache.

It will have an Error Code and an explanation, like ati2dvag.dll is causing a problem.
Post the error here and we'll have a better idea of what's happening.

Meanwhile, you can download some utilities to check the problems are not caused by overheating or crazy voltages...........

Re: ati a-i-w x800xt bsod / crashes

okay after a full day of playing with this heres what i did and so far im not having problems but fearing a bsod, fearing that my problem isnt fixed but so far no bsod....

btw i tried to run that command u siad in command prompt in safemode, but dont think i had the right cd, I had win xp, im running win xp home, and couldnt get my hands on a home cd) so i got the error "windows file protecion could not initiate a scan of protected files, the specific error code is 0x000006ba, the rpc server is unavailable" and btw I already do have that function "automatically restart" unchecked but thank you ^^

with all that in mind i didnt know what to do and was thinking about formating but didnt want to go through all of that crap.

so i gave it one more try.. checking out ppl with similiar problems i read this forum : http://www.ngohq.com/graphic-cards/1...-death-et.html

after reading that this is what i did, uninstall my graphics drivers, then i went to windowsupdate and installed those 2 files the forum mentioned, KB900485, and KB920872. Then made sure i had all updates for my mobo, vga drivers and chipset. Then i did as before what u told me to do , go safe mod, run the driver cleaner and cc cleaner, restarted, went f8 and set it to use vga drivers. Then i installed all ati drivers.. funny.. after all of that when windows starts now i get a file that pops up that says "customer support" if i go into it it then has a file named "blizzard" only and in that an .iso file. Its not effecting my performance, think its becuase when i update ati drivers, and selected "typical" install they added a free trial to world of warcraft.. i deleted the shortcut but i dunno how to get rid of it from popping up. Well i test it out with a game, bsod- and know what? somewhere i read that after installing ati drivers your vga drivers get uninstalled or messed up or something, so last thing i did was reinstall my vga xp drivers. Then played wow and stayed up late hehe.. *cough* just testing it.,. yea *cough cough* So far 20 hours later no bsod. Tho if i have another one im thinking about seeing if it may be my memory speed, heard that can cause all sorts of problems if its not set to the right speed. Sorry this is so long ill shut up now, but its for others in case they have the same problem as me, try this.

Thank you Jessica for sharing the solution. I'm sure it will help others.

Get rid of the pop-up by disabling it via Start> Run> type msconfig in the box
Go to Startup tab and disable.

Re: ati a-i-w x800xt bsod / crashes

Hi, not sure if it's the blank one, but I do know I hate blank entries. They are sneaky and suspicious. I'd disable it. If something doesn't doesn't work as usual when you restart just enable it again.

I also know that you could disable most if not all of those. Don't know about Trillian.

The ctfmon is for alternative text for a different user, and can be disabled via Regional & Language Options in Control Panel, just click on the Languages Tab, then Details, then Advanced and check the box that says "Turn off advanced text......"

jusched is the Java Updater..........pah, who needs that? (I hate updaters)
The rest are obviously ATI, and if you like having lots of things in the windows Taskbar, just leave them. You don't need any them; you can see they are all loading from Program Files so are not drivers etc, which would load from Windows/System32.

Soundman is the Icon in the Taskbar for adjusting your Audio Properties, which can also be done from Control Panel.

If you're worried about entries, and I don't like that blank entry, try this download.....
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
It's free, and the easiest to use. Update it before running; when updating you get a pop-up advertisement for the professional version but just clicking ok on the ad closes it.
I use it and it's useful.

Please let me know if disabling that blank entry stops the Blizzard annoyance.

Re: ati a-i-w x800xt bsod / crashes

I was able to find the blizzard path with highjack this. Thx tho, Well infact im a big critic on running programs that dont need to be run in the background so any advice on which i can get rid of is fine by me ^_^ isnt java a programming language? Needed for the security of ur pc by updating the language? As for Trillian that is my IM system, which i prefer cause it has msn, aim, icq, and yahoo all in one.. So i dont have to install multiple IM's to messege people. Have u ever seen msn or aim IM system? I think its Horrible. I can customize it how i want this way.. no stupid smileys and advertising. There is advertising and pointless crap all over aim/icq/msn/yahoo- way to sell out u know ? also has mirc but i dont use that. Anyway i knowi can turn off java updates but thought it was important, thanx for the tips ive already turned em all off.. cept how do i disable soundman if i dont need it ?

So get this.. i update windows last night.. after my pc working Perfect for 48 hours. Not had update in long time.. but since ive installed those 2 windows files now windows says i need update.. I think windows replaced or erased these files. Now game is Just like it used to be. BSOD before i can even log in. omfg.. I hate u windows.. this is seriously frustrating. Cant even update windows without losing those essential files for ATI. Now i must install those 2 windows files again im guessing. and also install VGA drivers again. *** who made this crap ?

Not to mention i find ccc seriously annoying with all its extra tray icons and programs starting on start up- what a bunch of stupid **** software i even dont need. Of course i already used highjackthis and dinked around with display settings to stop these pointless programs from starting.

Re: ati a-i-w x800xt bsod / crashes

mmkay i just went through a lil problem with my pw for this forum.. It was changed without my permission.. i swear.. i didnt do it- then couldnt log for like an hour even tho i wiated 15 minutes before retry andi reset my pw 3 times .. *sigh

heres what i did to fix graphics:
reinstalled 2 windows items, restarted, tested game to see if it would work = bsod

So i reinstall VGA Drivers > restart> Works.

Q: How can i avoid this video problem ? How do i stop this insane glitch from happening after windows updates? *5min later i see windows updates in tray, click.. says it wants to install updates for my x800xt.. ( knowing after last win update what it did .. im like %#$! NO! ) so.. I uncheck the update, and check dont show me agian, I think.. or rather Hope.. that fixed my problem.

I dl'd installed and ran ur malware scanner, it found this:

I beleive these are new .. When looking for the solution to my problem i did go to alot of websites. Shady looking websites I exited right away. But i think i did think this program was legit and installed it.. then uninstalled it cause didnt do me any good. Of course i removed this with ur malware program. I use ad-aware, spyware doctor, avg and regcure.. not to mention i use diskeeper 10 pro... I take good care of my pc or so i thought. Please tell me if i need to delete these through safe mode u think ? To make sure they are gone and not hiding? Also is there a keylogger in here? Would u rather i post the logfile not a pic? I have NO idea how my pw for this forum changed.... =(

Hi

I don't think RegistrySmart is malware - but uninstall it anyway.
If you're in doubt, run Kaspersky's online scanner.

Other than that, I think Houndog has covered everything. It does sound like the video problems could be caused by overheating. Check the temps and voltages with Speedfan (link provided by HD earlier) or SensorsView.

Re: ati a-i-w x800xt bsod / crashes

nah it for sure not over heating.. i have a fancy case with integrated sensory cables which tells me the temp of my cpu and overall inside case temp.. fan speed i dont know.. but look.. since i reinstalled those 2 windows files, and reinstalled my mobo VGA xp drivers (then when windows trys to update my video card i uncheck the drivers and check "never remind me again") So i Reeeeeally doubt its case temp or fan speed.. besides my case has like 6 fans integrated into it- not including the cpu fan, vid card fan, and fan built into psu. I even have a fan on one of my chipset chips, and a aluminum cooler on the other chip. Over all normal temp is about 24-26 degrees. Anyway.. now no problems for like a week and counting ^_^ ttyl.

hi Jessica
Is everything working ok?

Re the windows update; go into Control Panel> System> under the Automatic Updates tab select "notify me but don't automatically download and install them". That will stop it messing with your drivers.

(RegistrySmart is a Registry Cleaner and like all Registry Cleaners; dangerous if you don't use it properly.)
