ATI Radeon 9600XT Problems

Well, here are some of my pc's specs.

Windows XP Home Edition SP3
Radeon 9600XT (with old drivers, newer ones cause errors on my pc)
768mb of Ram
AMD Athalon XP 2800+ 2.08Ghz

I can provide more if neccesary.

Well anyways, as you can see in the photo below, I get this checkerboard pattern all over the screen. It appears on the PC boot screen, all the charecters appear corrupted. I've had this happen alot, but it seems to randomly stop after a few days to sometimes weeks, with long stretches of time before it acts up again. I suspect its from overheating, the fan on my card has been busted for a while. Im getting a new card, but that won't happen for a few more weeks. I'm hoping you guys can give a diagnosis and possibly a fix. Thanks.

Re: ATI Radeon 9600XT Problems

I think the word for your video card is something like "artifacting" or it "artifacts". I've had this happen to me before and it won't take long now for it to totally break down. I had to use a 64 mb grahics card for a couple weeks while I waited for my 7600gt

I'm sorry to say this but lets hope your new video card comes in soon

P.S. by the way which video card did you buy??? same as the last one???

Well, I didn't buy the new one yet, but I'm gonna upgrade to the next model, the 9800XT. I've read about artifacts, but while searching around I couldn't find a case like mine. This has been going on for at least a year and a half, so who knows how long the card has left.

What power supply do you have brand and model, remove the side cover and post the specs off the label of the psu.
