Compaq Presario 5000 Series 5423 Video card and Computer upgrades needed please help!

Lets start off with my computers specs!
System-Windows XP Service Pack 3
Compaq Intel(R) Pentium (R) 4Cpu
1.6Ghz, 1.0 GB of ram Year-2002

Now Ill introduce myself im a proud owner of the pc and have been for 6 years Ive played Dark Age Of Camelot, World Of Warcraft and now Age of Conan I had great Frames on Daoc and Wow but I just started playing Aoc and I can only get 15 fraps! My current Video card is a Nvidia 6800 GT running in a agp slot but now I believe im ready for a new one and need some people who are smart with pc's to help me plz and thx. I want the best video card that will be the best upgrade on frames for me and I will realy apreciate your help if you could tell me I could get that would be the best and also that will be compatible with my pc. Ok well besides that im guessing I need more ram how much more can I get and how do I install it if im currently maxed out please say so thanks here too. Ok also can I get a hardrive better than a 80GB hardrive cause thats all I got now and could use more if so give me the biggest one. Ok last thing I have heard that my computer series Ghz can be highered to 2.0Ghz is this true not for sure well if so please say so! Well guys Thanks for your help! If you need anymore of my pc specs that I did not say pleaase say so. Ok the second most helpful thing you could do is post links on where to buy certain peices my thanks! Please help if you can!

Welcome to tsf.

You really , really would be better off buying a new computer then upgrading that one. Putting money into that machine will really be a waste. New computers do not cost much today (only few hundred bucks) and would be several times faster then that machine could ever be.

and welcome to the Forum

You will not be able to overclock the Compaq . . the BIOS is too limited for that. You can look thru the cards here to see what fits you budget.

Go to Crucial and use their scanner to tell you how much menory you can add.

Be very carefull you do not spend more than what a new one would cost.

You should wait till you do have enouph money then. A 1.6ghz pentium 4 isn't going to deliver good frame rates.

If your going to actually do it , get a x1950 and a decent power supply. The x1650 you found isn't very fast , your current card is probably faster.

No , the 6800 isn't as good.

But I'm letting you know again , your 2002 pentium 4 is going to be a big bottleneck.
