“PCIe 2.0 x 16” and a standard “PCIe x 16”

Is there much performance difference between “PCIe 2.0 x 16” and a standard “PCIe x 16”?

I just purchased two Sapphire HD 2600XT, standard PCIe x 16, that will be used in crossfire mode. My MB, Gigabyte P35-DQ6, has failed and I need to buy a new MB which will have a PCIe 2.0 x 16.
Is it worth sending back my 2 video cards for upgraded PCIe 2.0 x 16?

Thanks,
Jim

In PCIe 1.1 (currently the most common version) each lane sends information at a rate of 250 MB/s (250 million bytes per second) in each direction.
PCIe 2.0 doubles this data rate, introduced in late 2007, PCIe 2.0 is found on newer systems such as those based around the Intel X38 or AMD 780G chipsets.
If your board can't do PCIe 2.0 then no, but if yes... uh... it is still up to you. 2X transfer speed...

Get two HD4850 or HD4870. In crossfire they'll thrash any nVidia card you can find.

Just make sure the PSU can handle the cards.
