nvidia fx5500 video card
I have a nvidia geforce fx5500 video card installed with windows xp home. recently I did some juggling with the hardware to fix a different problem and now, with everything back to normal the video card is messed up. I am using the same drivers as before, but every time I restart the computer it seems to mess up the drivers. I tried using a more recent driver with similar results, and while a fresh install of the drivers fixes the problem temporarily, the problem recurs with each reboot. However, the most severe effect of this seems to be a wobbly screen so something must still be working
I would really appreciate any light shed on the situation.

Re: nvidia fx5500 video card
asus a7n8x deluxe rev.2.0
768 mb of ram amd athlon xp3000+ processor cpu-149f mb-87f vcore-1.66v +3.3v-3.29v + 5v-4.89v +12v-12.86 agp vddq-1.5v tried reinstalling drivers in the manner you recomended and it did the same thing, that is, worked perfect until I rebooted. I am in the process of trying a different video card and it seems to work fine but in the process of changing cards I dropped my fx 5500 and now on bootup it displays the card info partially in symbols instead of letters and wont boot so maybe I wrecked it. if anyone knows of a way to fix it I would like to know. Meanwhile the original problem remains unsolved. Last edited by jarnlge; 08-05-2008 at 12:07 AM. Reason: forgot something |

Re: nvidia fx5500 video card
Update, just finished testing the other video card and it does the same thing! this is really starting to drive me nuts. I have a strong suspicion that the problem is with the OS, as I have not changed any CMOS settings and it works just fine with the other OS on my dual-boot system.
