Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 No Video

I had an old Nvidia Geforce 2 card, so I thought it was tiem to upgrade.
I bought an Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 Card and put it in the computer in place of the old one, and I get no video, ever. From startup the screen is black, and I can't even access the menu on my monitor.

Any suggestions?

Re: Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 No Video

I am having the same problem. Installed the card just fine and the when I tried to start up the computer it wouldn't show anything. I switched over to my on-board video and updated the drivers that way thinking that would help. Unfortunately now when I start the computer I get a message on my monitor stating "Frequency out of reach". I did some research on this in forums and found that that is usually an issue when the settings are too high for the monitor. So I tried to get into the Nvidia control panel to change the resolution. Lo and behold, I can't even get into the control panel. So if I run my video through the card it doesn't show anything and if I run it through the on-board I can't run Nvidia's control panel. I also can't change the settings in the system control panel, it won't save any changes.

The computer is a gateway. Has over 2 gb of ram but still has the included power supply unit with a max of only 250 w. The system meets all the specs required by the video card, and though it's on the low end as far as PSU I thought there would be no problem in running it. Is this a problem with the card, the drivers, or the computer?

Remove the Nvidia video drivers while your hooked to the onboard video, then reboot > in the Bios set up program set video to agp or Pciex which ever you have > shut down and hook the monitor to the video card> turn on tapping F8 select Vga mode disable antivirus/malware programs install video drivers.
