PCI-E requires 26 amps at 12 volts. That's a 650W PSU.
Power Supply Info and Selection . Info on thermal compounds & application . TEST PSU USING MULTI-METER

Re: Which is better?

I remember i read from an article saying that there is actually not much of a diifference between 8800GT/GTX and 9800 series. Is this true? In terms of performance and cost, they should not be far apart. Personally, i feel 8800GT/GTX can run most demanding games smoothly, even at the highest possible settings.

No point comparing stats when you can only find out the exact difference when you play games with it. Besides, the models you mentioned are both high-end cards so should not be a problem in terms of performance.

Just my 2cents worth of thought.

in the technician specific forum, this has been the question of the day.

In the end, the 9800GT/X series are modified equivelents of their 8800GT/X counterparts, just OC'd to the moon, more or less.

the other components are:

Enermax Galaxy 1000w PSU

ASUS striker 2 780i motherboard

4 GB "Sli ready" RAM

Intel E8400 cpu o/c'd to 3.6ghz with Asus Silent night 2 copper cooler

WD 320 Gb hard drive YS type

Vista home premium

ASUS Nvidia 9800gx2(x2) quad sli linked
