Optimal system to support Radeon x800

Hi,

For quite a long time i have been running this system.

AMD Athlon XP 2500+
1.83ghz, 1gig DDR RAM

ATI Radeon X800 256mb
AGP 8x Core 500mhz

Power Supply
230 VAC

My problem is that i don't know what i am lacking or over lacking to ensure stable FPS. I've been experiencing down to 11fps although AGP is enabled to 8x, any help? I'm planning to buy a new system, but intend to optimise my current one first.

Re: Optimal system to support Radeon x800

Your graphics card needs at least a 300-350W power supply, I think yours is 230??

You have a low spec processor and low spec RAM, so both of those things could also affect it, if you want to optimise, stick more RAM in it, get a better power supply.

Re: Optimal system to support Radeon x800

230 Vac is that a UK power voltage if it came off a tag in the rear of the PC that's probably the input current. To find the wattage look for a tag on the power supply inside the case by removing the side cover. Should look similar to this.

Look for and post the total Watts and the Amps on the 12 rail(s) may be more than 1 rail.

Re: Optimal system to support Radeon x800

Total watts are 300
Amps on the 12v is 12A (1 rail, excluding the -12v)

Please suggest a suitable watt PSU (not too powerful) thanks.

Re: Optimal system to support Radeon x800

If you really want better fps you need a better cpu , videocard , and psu. Just changing the psu really wont do much.

Re: Optimal system to support Radeon x800

If you do get a psu, then get a psu that will work in your next rig. A good 100$ + one. Then you don't have to chuck it when you buy your next pc.
