Continued problems...
I wasn't 100% where to put this, so here we go... it's kinda BIOS and Graphics card related... I think?
I put together a PC about 2 weeks ago now, and had problems with overheating... it was idling at around 60 and within 2 minutes of load it would shoot up to 115C. The system is... Asus Striker II Extreme 790i SLI QX9650 Core 2 Duo 4gig Corsair ram (DDR3 1600) Coolermaster 1000 case and Cooler master 1000W Modular PSU 2X 500gig Seagate HDD in RAID EVGA GTX 280 (1gig DD3) Currently I am not overclocking anything. Basically, to summerize I ended up RMAing the card, and I just got a new one and put it in. Thankfully this new card runs at 40 idle and around 60-70 full load... Unthankfully I have a different problem... or 2. Whenever running a 3D application I get a high pitch screeching from the card, I looked over this and some people pointed towards the PSU. I posted on the EVGA forums and we came to the conclusion I might want to RMA it, this is for a few of reasons. 1) The screeching never happened with the graphics card that overheated. 2) The screeching is coming directly from the back of the card (where the power connectors are) 3) The PSU itself is not making any bad noises at all. Anyway, as things go on, it can run for ages with the little squeel, I tried new leads and different PSU ports (modular), but I also have another problem.
Basically, I am wondering if these problems are at all linked? Could the graphics card be causing the Code Init... if I am going to RMA this card I would like to know other things are ok. I am really sorry for the long post and I hope my problems are clear, any questions at all, I am happy to answer. I am using the tired excuse too, so some things might not make sense and I thought this was the best forum to ask in. I should also re-itterate I have had no problems at all apart from the screech when actually in windows, (ermmm apart from 1 crash when installing Lord of the Rings online, which was odd), everything 'seems' to be running fine. It's been running for over 18 hours now, a few hours in games... just putting up with the screeching. Last edited by Hobble; 07-14-2008 at 07:06 PM. Reason: Clarification |

Re: Continued problems...
almost sounds like PSU to me. Sure the 'screeching' isn't the fan?

Re: Continued problems...
Yeah, cranking the GPU fan up full makes no difference, if there is no screech (not in 3d app) then it doesnt make a sound, if its making a sound already it makes no change.
The sound is coming directly from the back of the card I think... :/ |

Re: Continued problems...
only other thing I can think of that would make that kind of sound would be a transformer, fan, or capacitor.

Re: Continued problems...
it does appear to be a biod related error.

Re: Continued problems...
I will make a copy of the post on the bios forums then, see if anyone has an idea... it's really quite worrying, I think one of my main concerns is the ONLY problems I had with the overheating card was that one issue, none of the CODEINIT issues.
