Screen blacking out on startup issue

Hello, my computer has just now started acting up after a few years of solid use. About two days ago I replaced my fan and haven't seen any problems since then. However, this morning when I went to turn on my computer upon loading up my desktop my screen simply blacked out and I was unable to do anything. Everywhere from the start-up up to this point is fine. I decided to shutdown and take a look at the computer, I dusted out a few things and tried to start up again.

This time around I recieved a System failed VGA check message. I shut down once more, reseated the video card, and all was well again. I got up to the start-up and once again screen blacks out.

I have an ASUS A8N SLI mobo and the card is a XFX GeForce 6800. The issue of the power supply was what I found for the VGA failed message, however I'm using a 480W supply and I don't think that would be it. If anyone could give me an idea of what causes this blacking out it would be very appreciated.

check your tempretures and voltages in the bios and post them
try another psu in it
