New graphics card - with problems

I recently aquired a new Nvidia 8500gt for my pc, and have downloaded newest drivers and my computer finally acknowledges it in device manager.
Now whats happening is that i'm stuck in 1280 x 1024 resolution, as if i change out of this, the screen goes completely blank, or in 800 x 600 the screen seems ok before flickering for about 5 minutes then going blank.
The same thing happens with games that change the screen resolution, e.g. they seem stable for about 5 minutes then just go blank.

Any suggestions?

Re: New graphics card - with problems

When you have an OEM type PC the manufacturer will normally use the lowest power supply possible for the configuration as purchased as is your case the power supply is too low a PCIEx16 card needs a minimum of 26 amps on the 12v rail to preform correctly.

As for the resolution problem I would download the latest drivers from the Nvidia web site. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Uninstall the drivers for both the OEM onboard and the 8500, Boot to VGA mode by tapping F8 during boot,> Disable any anti virus / malware programs then install the correct drivers for the card and reboot
