Cry 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

Ok today i recently bought a Ge Force 8600GT 1GB DDR2 PCI-E as a experiment...ha!
so i plugged it into a PCI-E 16X (As the computer technician from Maplins, said it should work fine on this port)

The problem is... Can this video card work on this PCI-E16x port?? or was he talkin aload of crap!?

Also i know the video card is working... because the fan is spinning normally, so its getting power.

My PSU is between 320W, But i have a spare 600W if its needed?

My mobo is a ASUS A8N-LA, It has a AMD 64 3500 (2.2GH'z) On board intergrated Graphics Ge Force 6150 LE

*Please any help will be usefull :(:(**

Peace out

Re: 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

So I'm guessing you have an HP computer?
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...roduct=1843642
If you installed it in the PCIEx16 slot it should work your PSU is a little on the low side but you should at least see the boot screen, You have to set to primary display adapter to the PCIEx16 slot in the Bios setup by pressing F1 at boot to enter the program.

Re: 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

Yup indeed i do, its a crappy compaq and jus needed some extra boost in games...

But.. i know the 8600 is getting power because the fan is moving....

i tell you what i done haha.

1. i placed my graphics card into the PCI-E 16x slot
2. Turned on the PC
3. Put the installation Disk in
4. Installed the drivers and updates
5. restarted my pc, Pressed f1, went BIOS section and set my Primary display to PCI-E
6. Restarted the computer once again.
7. Loaded up steam to play counter strike source: But changed to a 600x800 reso with 256 colours and got very bad lagg.

*Note I tried disabling the Intergrated videocard as this would usually cause conflicts with my pc*

so do you reckon that it is just the power supply :S

Am glad a got an answer :D thanks alot m8 =]

Re: 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

Have you gone to Nvidia's web site and downloaded and installed the latest drivers?
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Are you using XP or Vista?
And yes I think the PSU is too small, for a for a PCIex16 card you need a minimum of 26 amps on the 12v rails. What brand and model is your 600w PSU

Re: 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

You tried to disable the Integrated graphics? You were unsuccessful? If so, I think that's your problem, though I can't think of any reason why you'd have trouble disabling the original graphics.

I have an extremely cheap eMachines desktop which originally also had Integrated graphics and specs similar to those in your machine. I bought an inexpensive card (in order to hook up to a digital display with DVI), but had problems like yours. I forgot to disable the original graphics and until I did so, the display was a mess. lol

FWIW: I also had a spare PSU, though not as strong as yours. I installed an old Enermax 420 watt unit with the new card and it works fine now.

Re: 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

Im using a Windows XP Media Centre edition, and the 600W PSU is honestly crap.... it came with a new tower. But was told to not run alot of USB ports as it will drain the power from it.
But PSU is a WINPOWER ATX-600,

*GBAWL- Yeah io tried disabling the intergrated graphics.... But it keeps activiating itself believe it or not... even when i disabled it in the BIOS screen!!

everytime my comp restarts it says "Plug and play monitor (GeForce6150LE) is your current display"

Am willing to take the risk on my PSU but not use too many USB ports... or a could use a USB Hub?

Any idea's lol :D

Re: 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

The advise you were given on that PSU was correct it makes a nice paper weight though.
Are you getting any output from the 8600 card or do you have the monitor hooked to the onboard still?
If not have you tried removing and reseating the card?
If the boot sequence does not "see" the card it will revert back to onboard.

Re: 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

I don't use Windows much any more, and don't have access to a Windows machine at the moment so can't really check. I think all that was necessary to disable the Integrated graphics, though, was to go to the device manager, right click on whatever the Integrated graphics was (I don't even remember what originally was installed LOL), and click disable. Probably had to reboot to finish the process, but I honestly don't remember.

Re: 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

Ummm well, the 8600 is installed on the PCI-E16x and the VGA port on the card isnt connected through anything. Current VGA cable is running thru my mobo atm (Only Because when i connect it onto the 8600 It says "RBG no input signal" So i assume that means there is not enough power to run.
But on the BIOS screen it doesnt even recognise my card in PCI-E port :S even tho i have installed and uninstalled them on several occasions :S

*well i need to go for work now =\ but i i will be back by 10:20GMT, and i will switch the PSU's around when i get back =) any new feedback is always helpfull ;D*

Thanks alot =)

Re: 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

Gbawl thats exactly what i done lol, but jus keeps reverting itself XD
But s wrench says, its probably more than likely that the onboard is reactiviating itself because it cant find my PCI-E16x connection =\ meh. so hopefully all goes well soon :D

Re: 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

You have to have the monitor hooked to the card if it is and the card is seated correctly
and the Bios doesn't "see" it, you probably have gotten a bad card.

Re: 8600 Ge Force.....Need some help please :(

I'll be honest.... i'm not going to use that PSU that came with the tower.... ie read on forums and feedback... and frankly.. they aint good whatsoever..

people have said the 12V rails are NOT actually capable of handling drives etc. and the actual PSU fan melts over the heat as it doesnt have any grills or secondary fan -.-

So.... Any idea's for a good PSU for around £80-£110 that will be suitable for my Graphics card =]

:D
