New PC, connecting to monitor

Hello

I have just built my new PC, I am/was all excited. Now I want to connect it to my monitor but my motherboard has no DVI(think that's the name) socket. I have tried connecting my monitor to my graphic card but that didn't work either. Do I need to buy something new? God this is annoying. ><

Re: New PC, connecting to monitor

Can you list your build...specifically your mobo, VGA card, and monitor model #?

Re: New PC, connecting to monitor

Tried that adapter, makes no difference.

Mobo: P7N Platinum
GPU: 9600GT
Monitor: LG Flatron L225WT

The monitor works fine, I tried it on another PC. I get no beeps, all the fans work. The light on the motherboard turns on. I'm a bit confused to why it is not working.

Re: New PC, connecting to monitor

have you tried the adapter with both DVI ports?

the 9600gt has two DVI ports on it...is that what you've been trying?

have you made sure the 9600 is seated correctly?

I have tried the adapter with both yes. The fan is running so it should be seated correctly. I don't get POST. Maybe I have not plugged something in? This is my first build so I might have made a mistake. I set the motherboard in the case. I have connected the PSU to the mobo with a 24 and the 4 pin. I have connected the HDD to the PSU and mobo. Connected some RAM. A GPU, which is connected to the PSU. A CPU with a working heatsink. The case wires. That's about it.

*bump* ><

My System

Re: New PC, connecting to monitor

its probably a bad motherboard, I had the same problem a few months after my first build, everything would turn on but nothing would happen. Sent my mobo back to Gigabyte for RMA, all is working fine now

Having to send it back would be a real bore. One other thing. When I start the PC I hear three thumping sounds on my speaker. Would these count as beeps?

Just to add, I tried powering it outside the case and still nothing. So it is the motherboard with the problem for sure?

Re: New PC, connecting to monitor

with it out of the case with just
m/b
cpu
video
speaker
and starting it by touching the 2 pins on the m/b that the front on button connects to,with a small screwdriver for a frcation of a second
if you don't get post try a cmos reset and try it again
if still no post beep remove the ram and see if you receive the bios error beeps because it is missing

Thanks for the advice but sadly it didn't change anything.

Edit: When I remove my graphics card my PSU starts to sound like a cricket and the "on" button on the front of my case starts to flash on and off while also making a noise.

Re: New PC, connecting to monitor

that will be the bios beep code because it is missing
if you remove the ram you should hear a different set of bios beeps
i left the ram out of the components it should have been
cpu
ram
video
speaker

Re: New PC, connecting to monitor

I don't get any beeps. I am going to send my motherboard back on Tuesday if I don't get any results, I hope it IS the motherboard that is the problem.

Re: New PC, connecting to monitor

if there are no beeps when you boot without ram it points to the m/b

Re: New PC, connecting to monitor

I'm back.

My new motherboard has arrived today so I was looking forward to having a working PC by tonight, yeah right.

So here is my problem now: I click on the power button to start the PC, my fans start and the motherboards light goes from red to blue for under 1 second and then it powers off.

This is really starting to annoy me, this is even worse then before!

Edit: I just wanted to add that the PSU fan starts and then shuts off almost immediately, yet if the PSU is the problem why did I not get this specific problem with the old (faulty, I thought) mobo?

Re: New PC, connecting to monitor

set it up out of the case on a piece of cardboard with
cpu
video
ram
speaker
and see if you get post
check you have the correct amount of standoffs no more no less
that they line up with the holes in the m/board
usually 9
try another wall power outlet
if the psu fan does not keep running with it out of case try another psu

Re: New PC, connecting to monitor

Tried all of the above apart from using a different PSU as all my old ones are incompatible with the motherboard.

Another thing to add was that my PSU was making some funny noises with my old motherboard(the returned one), now this.

So it very well could be the PSU I guess? Darn, so all the components could be capoot.
