Good Budget Card
Currently I have an ATI Radeon 9550 AGP 8X Graphics Card. It is only good for DirectX 9 Games. The games sometimes skip and I get horrible FPS. I have updated my drivers, turned all the settings all the way down and the game still skips. Do you have any suggestions. Should I just get a new card?

Good Budget Card
Please recommend me a great budget gaming card that would work with my system besides the Radeon 9550 and GeForce 6200. They have both been dissapointing and my system can probably handle better.
My Specs: Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHZ 512 KB L2 Cache 533 MHZ FSB Seagate 120 GB ATA Hard Drive 1.5 GB of DDR SDRAM Radeon 9550 AGP Standard ATX Power Supply |

Re: Good Budget Card
I don't think you're going to find a cost-effective video card for an AGP motherboard. There are 256mb GeForce 8800gt's going for 70-80 dollars now, but they're all pci-express.

Re: Good Budget Card
To be honest, building a WAYYY better computer than what you have now, (Able to play crysis at high quality) might cost u around like 300-400.....
This is just an estimate, but here are the possible specs 2 GB of ddr2 800 (Faster, and more ram) 8800GT 512 MB, 256-bit (Crysis at high quality with pretty good FPS) 450W PSU Motherboard with decent specs Dual Core 2.4 GHZ Windsor Processor Keep in mind, if you want to go SLI, you will have to change the Power supply, and Motherboard, but if not, this computer is a very good buy. It will cost you about 367 dollars. I didn't choose a case because i figured you could use your own. You will see a MASSSSSSIVEEEEEEE difference in performance from this computer compared to yours. Reason im telling you to get these specs is because i don't want you to get ripped off. I was in your situation for a while as well, and i realized that every card that was "good" for AGP, was completely pathetic compared to the higher end cards. And the prices were MUCH higher. You'll be able to play Crysis on Med/High quality at pretty good FPS. Crysis if you didn't already know is the best graphic game out right now, and you need a very good computer to be able to run it on high. If you want me to e-mail you the cart for this, let me know your e-mail in your reply, or message me on AIM if you got it. Please keep in mind also that i am not an expert, but i do know what I am. And i do have experience with this video card (not this specific brand, but that doesn't matter much). Also, i picked the cheapest, decent quality items for you, just to save you some money. So if you get this, try not to overclock anything too much, cuz you don't want something to go wrong. ilim4t1c Last edited by ilim4t1c; 07-03-2008 at 08:33 PM. |

Re: Good Budget Card
Well as long as we are recommending that he buy more parts why not give him some sites that will help him? Like the My super PC site at -> http:www.mysuperpc.com
I have a Intel motherboard as well its the GA-8i945P-G so I know about the slow response times. My next board will be something with a P35 chipset in it. Or this entry from ASUS P5N-D as reccomended by a saleman at pc club.Or on the other side of the coin why not just let him buy a AGP card as thats what He wants to do right? It would be cheaper in the short term as well. Farewell from a fellow gamer Last edited by mattinsocal8911; 07-03-2008 at 10:52 PM. |

Re: Good Budget Card
It would be cheaper yes, but it won't be long until he needs a new video card....i'm trying to help the guy out, not have him spend more money later on....the best cards for AGP are old and don't come close to the PCI-E x16 2.0 cards...

Radeon 9800 or Not
Ok. So I have been playing DirectX 9 games on a Radeon 9550 for 2 or 3 years and it has been fine. But it is old and I need something a little more updated. I am on a budget so I wont pick a 9600GT. I was thinking something along the lines of a Radeon 9800 Pro AGP. The only problem is I dont think my system can handle it.
Specs: Medion Titanium 8000 XL Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHZ with 512K L2 Cache and 533MHZ FSB Radeon 9550 AGP 8X Graphics Card with 256 MB of DDR VRAM Seagate 120 GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive DVD RAM DRIVE 250W Standard ATX Power Supply MSI 648 Max Motherboard with AGP 8X slot and 3 PCI Slots |
