PC Freezing

Hi newbi here, sorry if I am repeating anything here.

Just upgraded my PC (yes so I can play Call of Duty 4) The new PC should be able to handle this game as well as FEAR. The PC is a P4 2.8GHZ with hyperthreading, also has 2GIG of Ram, 250GIG SATA drive. The PC was shipped with the wrong video card. The current card is a Radeon X300 (128RAM) PCIe, the card that is being shipped to me is a GForce 512RAM card (that's all the specs I have now)

The Problem: The PC keeps on freezing on me,l I tried to run scandisk but it would stop and freeze in the middle of it, then I heard the fan really gear up loud so I powered down the PC and it would not boot

I waited to the following morning and I opened the case and reset one of the ram chips (seemed a bit loose) PC powered right up
It ran fine all night even while I killed many enemies playing Day of Defeat, as soon as I played either COD4 or FEAR the PC would lock up after a while.

Any feedback is welcome, I am hopefull that the new video card will solve the gaming issue. Would you advise having a small fan blow on the back of the PC, do you think I still may have a heating problem?

Thanks for taking the time to read this

Re: PC Freezing

Welcome to TSF.

What are your CPU tempretures ? Use something like Orthos ( Or even just play a game ) and record the tempreture using speedfan or Sensorview.

ALSO :

What Power supply are you using? Going from a X300 to a 512MB Geforce ( any idea what model? 8600GTS ? ) is a big jump in terms of power requirements.

Using a house fan may help - but make sure there is no dust around the heatsink / fan for the CPU.
