Graphics artefacts / textures stretching(With screenshots)

Hey I've been starting to get problems with my graphics card (I assume) for a while now, but this is my first attempt at asking for help, as googling / searching hasn't told me what the problem is.

Firstly my specs:

GFX card: HIS ATI Radeon X1950pro
Processor: Intel e6300 1.86Ghz dual core.
Memory: 2 Gig 800mhz
Motherboard: Asus P5N-E SLI

Here's the problem:

In games I'm getting these graphical glitches, such as:
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u.../WoWerror1.jpg

and

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u.../WoWerror2.jpg

And here's another screenshot of the problem happening in the ATI 3D preview in the catalyst tools:

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u.../ATIerror1.jpg

In addition to this happening in games, on webpages + my desktop, I'm getting red + green pixels that change places and 'move' as I scroll down the website.

At first I thought this problem was overheating, but according to the catalyst control center, I haven't seen my graphics card go over 50*C

I hope someone here can help!

Matt.

Hi mate,
your graphic drivers are up-to-date???
If not, uninstall old driver, download new one from Internet and install...
Also, open the case and make sure Graphic card is well placed in slot.
But better take graphic card out and clean connectors with rubber.
Also clean PCI-E slot from dust with brush...
Put Graphic card back in slot and start your PC...
You definately have some graphic card issue, maybe graphic driver is corrupted or graphic card is wrong placed in slot...
Let us know what you did...
Hope this will help you mate...
P.S. Horde FTW ^-^

Re: Graphics artefacts / textures stretching(With screenshots)

Hey thanks for fast reply,

Yea my graphics drivers are up to date, and I've tried reinstalling them many times.

I've reseated my graphics card a few times, and it's definitely firmly placed and in the right slot.

The graphics problems don't always happen so extremely, some days it's perfectly fine for a few hours, then it slowly gets worse =/

Hi mate,
Hmmmm... what make/model is your PSU??? And how old you have it???
Maybe it is the lack of power...
I am just guessing but at the end we will manage some answer ^-^

Akasa Paxpower 460W

I built this computer about a year and a half ago, however the PSU was 2nd hand. This problem hasn't been happening for too long, About 3-4 months would be my guess.

Hi mate,
Well your PSU seems to be good as I red on some web sites...
But 460W maybe it is less that you need...
If you can borrow some more powerful PSU to test for changes...
Does your graphic card needs to be connected to PSU??? I mean does it need an extra power???
Let us now what you did...

Yeah my GFX card is connected to the PSU, and I don't know anybody else with a decent PSU so I couldn't do that.

Ah, so you can not borrow PSU... :(
Well, I do not want to say to go and buy one because I am not sure 100%...
How many optical drives you have and how many HDDs you have got???
If you have more then one of each, then I think you need more powerful PSU then 460W,
like 550W or 600W...

Re: Graphics artefacts / textures stretching(With screenshots)

Ah, so you should have sufficient power I must say...
But if you can somehow borrow PSU or to take to the shop to hook one just to see if graphics artefacts/textures stretching will show...
I am going home now, will think about this and will let you know tomorow...
If you do something just post it, some from the hardware tech team will answer you...
Hope for the best mate...

Re: Graphics artefacts / textures stretching(With screenshots)

I too think its the power supply. Akasa are not a 'respected' brand when it comes to PSU's.

This usually happens when the card is overheating / underpowered or bad drivers.

Have you got another Graphics card you can try?

Nah I don't, my brother has an AGP GFX card though but I don't know if that would be much help.

If you were to hazard a guess, it would be the PSU that should be replaced?
