[SOLVED] geforce 6200 agp freezes during gameplay
hi. i have a P4 system. i recently got a new agp card so i can have a better resolution and quality during gameplay. i also did a fresh install of everything just to make sure nothing goes wrong with the system. i installed everything needed like word and virus scan and stuff and started installing the games.
my specs are as follows P4 1.7 1.5gb ram geforce 6200 agp8x/4x 256mb pt800ce-a motherboard dvd r burner dvd player 160gb WD HD 1 floppy. (LOL this should be extinct) thats all i know for now. everything works fine except playing games. sometimes i can play for a couple of mins before it freezes and i have to restart. any help would be great... thanks. |

Re: geforce 6200 agp freezes during gameplay
okay. i check the box of the 6200 and it said 300wats. i checked mine and it also said 300wats
as for the brand it just said ATX 300 switching power supply Model SZ-300W ATX ill check the temp when i reboot. what should the temp and voltage be? so id know if its wrong. but other than games everything seems to be working fine.. thanks |

What games are you trying to play , the 6200 isn't exactly a very good card. When I had a 6200 it wouldn't even play older games on full. I used to have a spec close to yours a few years ago.

Re: geforce 6200 agp freezes during gameplay
@ dai- wont a bigger power supply make it dangerous for my whole system? i checked my other computer it was athlon i think. it had lower psu. LOL i doubt id find one i can borrow.
@emosun - im realizing that now. so what should i do. i had a geforce 2 MX it works but it sucks. this works on anything else but gaming. great on watching vids. i tried playing an old Counterstrike. it wont even work. my 64mb card works with it. tried WOW. it also didnt work. could it be the card is faulty and broken or is it my system? i dont want to replace it and get same results. |

Overbuilding is NEVER a bad thing in computers. My rin has a 7800GT and a core 2 duo, but i have a 650W PSU so i can go 8800GT and quad core and not have to upgrade anything but the mobo.

Re: geforce 6200 agp freezes during gameplay
under power will cause probllems with a computer over powering will not
it only draws the power it needs, you can throw in a 1.2kw supply and it will not do any damage min amps on the 12v+ line for agp=18amps pcie=26amps

Re: geforce 6200 agp freezes during gameplay
i checked the temp its around 50-55C
as for the 12+ its around 174-186amps. i contacted EVGA cause i was already pissed and cant wait any longer. gave me a bunch of tips even for overclocking and stuff. he said my PSU should be fine with the said card. 3 of them did as i was talking to three different people. LOL. anyway i noticed the annoying problem of freezing after playing CS as it wont load after some kid tried using it. i remember it not freezing 2-3 weeks ago. i did a major system restore on the said date. now CS is working for a good 10-15mins. so is WOW. in that time span i just added all the windows updates and crap. i also had some wierd error after the updates. i did not know what caused them so i just turned them off at start up. maybe the windows update ****** up my comp again. i was reading on other forums and they are encountering the same problems too. i also have windows vista that got murdered by the BSOD after the update. WHAT THE HELL is microsoft doing.... they said they were critical updates. they sure are after installing them... how do i get a hold of a new PSU? i tried searching for P4 PSU on ebay. they all end up with 200-300wat PSU... and by looking at them i think mine does look better... how do i know the compatibility of the PSU? also im a lil tight on the budget. i rather not buy a 40 dollar PSU. but i want this to run smoothly |

Re: geforce 6200 agp freezes during gameplay
by replacing it i meant thru the warranty. i rather check what else i can do with this before i give up or RMA it... ill give it at most a week to try it.
one more thing that i noticed. at the device manager at display adapters it said PCI BUS 1 device 0 function 0 shouldnt it be agp??? could that be the cause? Last edited by snap0714; 06-28-2008 at 01:54 AM. |

Re: geforce 6200 agp freezes during gameplay
holy peice of crap. i made it work. damn card. there was nothing wrong with my system. its just that it had 2 ports you can connect it too. the other one was a DVI. i used the DVI with the converter. worked well LMAO... did some research and they said there was some driver you need to switch it to the normal port. or some 6200 its the other way around. the DVI cant play 3d graphics.. oh well.
to use both ports you need an old driver as the new ones we get from nvdia are kinda like generic so the card picks either of the two not both... but i tested both (one connected to the tv.) playing video. they work. also with games... which is wierd.... so if anybody else has a problem this pretty much fixes it... |
