GeForce GTX 280 is the best?

1. Is GeForce GTX 280 the most powerful video card on the market right now?
2. If not then tell me which one is.

It's still arguable. I've seen people say that the GTX 280 will beat the ATi HD4870x2 when it comes out, but I'm sure they'll be close. Of course, that card isn't out yet, so it's a pretty safe bet that the fastest available would currently be the 280.

It's only marginally better than the 9800GX2 and sometimes the 280 is BEATEN by the 9800GX2!!. For the price difference I would expect a bigger difference. I suspect that this an early driver issue but even if they did get that fixed, I wouldn't expect too much of a leap.

The 260 on the other hand gives better bang for buck as its cheaper, is only about 10% less in performance than the 280 and always beats out the 9800GTX. (sometimes twice as much on high res gaming!)

PS ATI have launched their 4000 series so expect prices to fall from Nvidia to put pressure on ATI.

For now it is but the 4870 is a threat to that and the 4870x2 will prob cost less and perform better and nvidia is too stubborn to bring down prices. Anyone remember 8800 ultra? But it will be the best performing for a while.
BTW 2x 4870 beat a gtx 280 and 2x 4850 also beat it at least in bioshock
