New card causing streaking?
Before I got this new card, I had a Geforce FX 5950 Ultra that was overheating while playing WOW. It tried cleaning, replacing the thermal paste, taking of my side panel and keeping a box fan pointed at it, but it didn't work for long and continued to overheat. So I figured the card was just beyond its time and ordered another card.
I couldn't find another 5950 to just replace it, so I ordered a Geforce 6600 GT. After I installed it and started up WOW, the picture was streaking and popping like a really old movie played on an old projector. I've installed the drivers on the installation cd and updated ones from Nvidia's site but it is still happening. So I'm left to thinking that this might be because my power supply is too small. The cards specs call for a 300 W and mine is only 280 W. Could this be what is causing the streaking? Do I need to upgrade to a larger power supply? My other parts if this helps: Mobo - Soyo KT600-8237 CPU - AMD Athlon 2 ghz 1 gig of RAM I also posted this in the power supply forum. |
