Video Card Problems...VPU

I just built my computer a few months ago, so everything is still fairly new.. I've been playing a lot of games on it and so far no problems until I recently started playing World of Warcraft...

Now after an hour or two of playing the screen freezes for like 10 seconds, then I see an error when I tab out, here's a screen shot of the error below..

I've tried disabling the error screen via the ATI Catalyst control center, but I still get the freezing every now and then... Sometimes after I've ran the game for longer periods of time, when it freezes, the whole pc freezes and I have to reboot..

I've tried re-installing the latest drivers.. Any ideas??

Re: Video Card Problems...VPU

Did you contact ATI Tech Support?

You download & SAVE the latest driver install file.

Note, sometimes to fix a video card driver problem you must first uninstall the existing drivers. This may also require running a Driver Cleanup tool (nVidia requires/recommends this). After full uninstall (including cleanup) you must reboot.

You may not get the New Hardware Wizard because WinXP will automatically install the generic VGA drivers.

Now you use the downloaded driver install file.

Note the Driver Cleanup tool link above, I use this one to fully uninstall nVidia drivers, and I do remember seeing ATI video listed.

Yes I contacted ATI, they were of no help, they just told me to avoid games that cause the error and they have known about this error since 2005...

I cleaned the old drivers and reinstalled the latest, got the same problems.. system froze, then I got a BSOD with the error

Problem was caused by ati2dvag

STOP: 0x000000EA (0x89DD3998, 0x8A682328, 0xF78ECBC, 0x00000001)

Beginning dump, etc, etc...

I'm just so extremely frustrated...

Tried and still didn't work... Looked at that link and it has a lot of good info, and I tried a few tweaks, but no still nothing, my system still freezes and locks up (3D Games only too)....

Sapphire Radeon ATI X1550 512MB DDR (PCI-E x16)
Intel Pentium D 940 3.2Ghz 800mb FSB
ASUS P5VD2-VM SE M/B
Two 1GB Sticks of Crucial PC2-5300 DDR2
450 PSU
CPU is running around 28C on average load..

Re: Video Card Problems...VPU

I don't know.. I checked with ATI and they said my PSU was more than enough for everything that I have(plus I can play COD4 without error).. They gave me a site that had an interactive checker and turns out I only use a max of 300w under a full load, so the 450 is more than enough...

I hate to say this but I think imma have to just get a new card and never go with ATI again....

It came with my Power Up! case, so I assume it's their brand, I don't see anything else written on it accept the current chart..

Re: Video Card Problems...VPU

So how can I be sure if it's my PSU or my video card that's messed up?? And how come even name brand PSU units that I see like the one here http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...436&CatId=1079 show even less amps?

PS are any tests that I can run on my video card besides dxdiag to test loads on it, or to rule out that the card itself is faulty?

Re: Video Card Problems...VPU

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...022&CatId=1079 What about this one? I know you typically get what you pay for, but this has 38A under the +12 for the PCI-e and if you think this will run my components regardless of it not being some huge brand name?

Re: Video Card Problems...VPU

PS.. Does that video test show an error if somethings wrong being it states it's continuous, and How long should I run the torture test for? It's been going on for 10 Minutes, and all I keep seeing is:
Lucas-Lehmer iterations and the size for each test number..

Re: Video Card Problems...VPU

The video test seems a little jerky, but I am not sure if I am supposed to see any error messages or not, but I haven't seen anything but the earth spinning for 5 minutes now...
